Roosevelt, NJ – The Supreme Court of New Jersey has denied a petition for certification filed by Yeshiva Me’on Hatorah and Congregation Anshei Roosevelt. The petition sought Supreme Court review of the appellate division’s final decision that the yeshiva had been operating an illegal dormitory in a Roosevelt residence.

The yeshiva leased Congregation Anshei Roosevelt’s synagogue on Homestead Lane from 2005 to 2010.

N.J. Superior Court Judge Lawrence Lawson originally ordered the yeshiva to stop housing more than five people in the single-family home.

Lawson personally inspected the property and determined that the yeshiva had not complied with the court order. Lawson fined the yeshiva $200 for every day of noncompliance for a total of $11,200. The judge also ordered the yeshiva to pay the borough’s attorney fees totaling $3,900.

Chief Justice Stuart Rabner denied the yeshiva’s petition for Supreme Court review of Lawson’s decision and ordered the yeshiva to pay costs resulting from the petition of certification.

Do it legally the first time and it would be much cheaper, simpler and without the chillul Hashem!
