New York – LIRR Adds 9 Trains for Yom Kippur Eve

    New York – The Long Island Railroad will provide nine extra eastbound trains on Friday for the eve of Yom Kippur.

    The trains will leave Penn Station between 2:08 p.m. and 3:48 p.m. There will be three additional trains on the Babylon and Port Jefferson branches, two on the Port Washington Branch and one on the Far Rockaway Branch.

    The Babylon trains with be a 2:24 p.m. express to Lynbrook then all stops through Babylon; a 3 p.m. stopping at Jamaica, Rockville Centre then all stops to Babylon; and a 3:12 p.m. express to Rockville Centre.

    Port Jefferson trains will include a 2:08 p.m. with stops at Jamaica, Mineola and all stops to Huntington; a 2:21 p.m. departure that will stop at Forest Hills, Kew Gardens, Jamaica, New Hyde Park and then all stops to Huntington; and a 3:24 p.m. with stops at Jamaica, Mineola Westbury and Hicksville.

    Port Washington branch trains include a 3:18 p.m. to Woodside, Flushing-Main Street and then all stops to Port Washington; and a 3:40 p.m. stopping at Woodside, Flushing-Main Street and then all stops to Great Neck.

    A 3:48 p.m. train on the Far Rockaway branch will stop at Locust Manor then all stops to Far Rockaway.

    The MTA also will suspend all routine maintenance work on its seven brdges and two tunnels beginning at 1 p.m. on Friday to accommodate motorists heading home for Yom Kippur.

    I would suggest that people don’t go into work on erev yom kippur. The zman this year is very early and even if one can leave the office by 1:00 or 2:00 it’ll be very tight in time.
    In fact, the gemara also mentions that talmidim were sent home early on erev yom kipur and erev pesach.

    What about every other Friday afternoon? How about trying to get home for Shabbos? Too bad there aren’t thousands more Yidden trying to do that as well.
