New York – The state Thruway Authority is installing ramp control gates to be used for emergency closures so state troopers won’t have to block the entrances with their cars.

The agency says the gates are now being installed at seven locations along I-90 and I-190 in the Buffalo area. The gates will be operated manually.
The Thruway Authority is also installing movable barriers at eight locations between Interchange 50 in Amherst and Interchange 55 in West Seneca. These barriers are to be used during an all-lanes closure in either direction to guide traffic into a U-turn to clear blocked lanes.
Let me guess , at a cost of 3 million a piece?
