Brooklyn, NY – Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn) and members of his staff met with representatives from the New York City Department of Transportation and the Department of Environmental Protection today to discuss the critical repairs needed along 50th Street between 13th and 14th Avenues with the goal of making the street safer. Hikind initially met with DOT Brooklyn Borough Commissioner Joseph Palmieri about this issue, and followed-up with Thomas Marrama, Borough Manager, Bureau of Water and Sewer Operations; Fred Schneider, Supervisor, Brooklyn Sewer Maintenance, South; and Denise Hubbard, Brooklyn Coordinator, Bureau of Communications & Intergovernmental Affairs, all of DEP.

“50th Street has become an obstacle course,” said Hikind. “It is like something out of an amusement park. But there is nothing funny about the very serious danger posed by the deplorable condition of the street. This street is in the heart of our community. Children riding in school buses, commuters on the B11 bus, and others are all putting their lives in danger every time they travel down this street. It is an accident waiting to happen. This is a dangerous situation which must be remedied.”
Working in tandem with DOT and DEP officials, Hikind noted that he is confident progress will be made and that a quick and safe resolution to the problem will be achieved. “For now, the goal is to at least repave the street, but we are also looking at other, more permanent options,” said Hikind.
This is obviously a bunch of poorly repaired road excavations. The right thing is for DOT to check who did the poor refilling and make them fax it or pay. That is why there are permits pulled for jobs, so there is a record.
It’s not just between 13 & 14. It goes all the way up to 19. Anyone who drives up 50th from 13 to 19th avenues, can become seasick!
About time to fix it…
The same is 43rd street between 12th and 13th Ave. also a rollcoaster and needs a desperate to be repair
The money that was wasted tearing out the dividers on Fort Hamilton parkway at Hikind’s insistence could have been used to pay for these badly needed repairs on 50th Ave. in BP

This city only fixes AFTER somebody falls or a car goes into a pothole or when the pothole gets too big!! That is when they patch!!
