New York, NY – In the only interview Ruth Madoff has given about her husband’s crimes, she tells Morley Safer she and Bernard were so distraught over the burden of those crimes that they attempted suicide together. Safer also speaks to Madoff’s son, Andrew, for a story that will provide the first inside account from the immediate family of the man who stole billions of dollars.

They couldn’t even get that right. How could they face their most best friends and associates that the rooked up to the last minute.
I read about this story on another website & it said that they almost attempted suicide on “X-Mas Eve”, and I thought, “Who cares? X-Mas Eve means nothing to them! They’re Jewish!” (lol)
Nevertheless, I feel a little sorry for Ruth, because we don’t know how much she knew. People always assume the wife is “in” on everything all the time… but why? Most women don’t ask a lot of questions, as long as their husband keeps bringing home the paycheck!
And for high-society people especially… they’re too busy getting their nails done, tanning, going to the spa, having luncheons, etc. to bother with their husband’s profession at all, let alone help him “mastermind” anything.
I have a feeling she may have not known about anything, and if that’s true… then I definitely have sympathy for her! How horrifying & embarrassing for your husband to turn out to be such a crook! And to top it off… their kid was so embarrassed, HE killed himself as well?!
I have no comment about Bernie… but Ruth might be getting a raw deal. I don’t know…
Well they didn’t try hard enough.
How much did they pay this con artist for the interview?
And we are supposed to have some type of sympathy for them?? Only people I feel sorry for are his son’s widow and their grandchildren.
