    33

FILE - People sit amongst shelters and tents in Zuccotti Park at the Occupy Wall Street encampment in New York City, New York, USA, 24 October 2011. Up until recently no tents had been allowed as they are in violation of the park rules. The Occupy Wall Street movement has spawned similar protests across the United States and around the world. EPA/JUSTIN LANENew York – Lawyers working on behalf of Occupy Wall Street protesters are demanding that New York City’s fire department return generators taken from protesters.

The lawyers say they’re getting reports of hypothermia in Zuccotti Park, where protesters are camping out. A weekend snowstorm brought freezing temperatures – after the generators were confiscated, along with fuel. Officials said they could cause fires.

In a letter to the department, the attorneys associated with the New York chapter of the National Lawyer Guild say the seizures were only “a pretext” for “freezing out” the activists.

Guild official Gideon Oliver says the action deprived hundreds of people of heat a day before snow was forecast, putting them in harm’s way. He called it “a clearly calculated move to break the occupation.”

America should demand that Occupy Wall Street return our Parks to us! Forget you OWS. I will be a patriot instead. Anarchy is heresy and death. Say no to OWS. Say no to the socialist agenda of their sponsors.

Maybe the protesters can protest the fact that the FDNY removed fire hazards from the park.
Maybe the lawyers can sue G-d since there clearly was some sort of collusion between Him and NYC officials.

The lawyers make no legal claims. Like everything else this movement is demanding, it’s nothing but flaky ideas. Maybe if they came up with some good realistic demand would they be taken seriously.

I’m very surprised by the comments I read above, and altough I Agree that these occupy wall street people lack leadership and don’t have a plan going forward. However, you guys really failed to identify what’s behind these protests and why the gvrmnt fears them. Its not about wall street and its certainly not about the bailout.

Here is what’s going on here. People are starting to realize what the gvrmnt is doing to us in the finanacial sector and in the judicial system. We have lost all rights in this country and have no control of ourselves and our future. We don’t earn money on our own and we can’t spend them on our own. We have no means of defence against a corrupt gvrmnt or rotten law enforcements. The judicial system which is reallymeant to protect us citizens from agression by gvrmnt or authorites on any level has basically turned its back on us and created an alliance with the gvrmnt assisting them and providing them (ilegally) the legal tools to perscute and opress its citizens.

This is really what’s going on out there. Now, wether republican or democrat it makes no diffrent. If our freedom and rights will not be defendedm us jews will end up paying the heftiest price. Remember, no one out there cares when the gvrmnt incarcerates some one on baseless and privilous charges. No one will stand up for us.

I don’t believe that jews should actually perticipate in these events but I stronlgy symphatise with them as I realise that if they accomplish to break the gvrmnt somewhat it will benefit my bretheren.

I know that some of you will not be thrilled with my point of view but that’s ok. I even expect some to harsh words directed upon me, that’s ok too. Remember , you win an argument by challanging the point of view and not by name callings and certainly not by use of vulgar language and that’s what I’m looking out for.

    Thanks all,

If it is dangerous and a fire hazard, they should not be allowed such materials. I can’t start a BBQ grill in some parks for fire safety so we all should have the same rules. Who cares if one is for a “movement”? Its not like they are being forced to live there.

These people have to be kidding…they are tresspassing on someone elses property…drug use, public urination and worse, no permits, sanitation, etc.etc and they are demanding rights. It is their choice to be there. The Laws of NYC prevail. If FDNY says it’s unsafe then it’s unsafe..period.Again I ask where is the Department of Health?

As I’ve said before, I like the attention it is bringing. I would not want my kid there, Jew or Non-Jew. It is entertainment for me. And it give the mayor and the cops something to keep them busy, so for those reasons it is good.

Of course they relieve themselves on the ground. The lavatories are Occupied!

The gas generators were a fire hazard, especially in close proximity to the tents which were combustible. The NYCFD routinely makes inspections of commerical property for safety purposes. Years ago, it even made unannounced yearly inspections of residential property. If there was a fire or explosion in the area whee the demonstrators were, (and people were killed and injured), the same lawyers who are demanding return of the generators, would be first in line to sue the City of NY. What meshugana hypocrites!

I will preface this by saying that I have been active with OWS since its inception, long before the fateful Sept. 17th protest. I am close friends with the organizers of Occupy Yom Kippur and Occupy Judaism.

This being said — one would be remiss if they forgot that America is THE “medinah shel chesed” whose government programs have allowed Yiddishkeit to flourish in ways it never has in Europe. How many kollel families receive housing assistance? AFDC? What, private charity will cover these things — have you seen yeshiva tuition lately? Private subsidies STILL place the figure out of the reach of most families — and Newt Gingrich wants to fix this with student loans (i.e., more money for banks) and “school choice”, so we’re talking debts of $100-150K for a frum family before the oldest is age 18. Herman Cain’s 9-9-9 plan means an effective 17% tax on all food (because only “used” goods are exempt). How is the right-wing agenda beneficial?

What does it provide? “Freedom”? Freedom from healthcare, from affordable housing. Freedom FOR corporations to do whatever they wish (e.g., getting rid of the EPA means you trust Pfizer to say if your water is OK, etc). This is Torah?
