Washington – US Cuts Funding For UNESCO After Palestinian Vote

    19

Delegates cheer after they approved the membership in a vote of 107-14 with 52 abstentions, during the session of UNESCO's 36th General Conference, in Paris, Monday Oct. 31, 2011. Palestine became a full member of the U.N. cultural and educational agency Monday, in a highly divisive move that the United States and other opponents say could harm renewed Mideast peace efforts. State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland says Monday’s vote triggers a long-standing congressional restriction on funding to U.N. bodies that recognize Palestine as a state before an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal is reached.

Nuland says UNESCO’s decision was “regrettable, premature and undermines our shared goal to a comprehensive, just and lasting peace” between Israelis and Palestinians.

She says the U.S. would refrain from making a $60 million payment it planned to make in November.

But Nuland said the U.S. would maintain membership in the body.

The Palestinians want full membership in the U.N., but Israel opposes the bid. The U.S. says it would veto a vote in the Security Council.

Now might me a good time to tell the UN to relocate to another country like Saudia Arabia. This way the anti semites won’t have the hassle to travel all the way to new York to vote against the jews.

Wow. I would not have expected such a swift, strong and aggressive response from the Obama adminstration. At least…

UNESCO is a sham and the Western world should have cut off funding decades ago. I worked at a temp job for them in the 1980’s and saw first hand how they twisted data to suit their purposes.

Israel needs to vote for Pal statehood. Then 10 minutes after they declare their state, when the first rocket is shot at Israel, that is an act of war & then Israel can finally do what needs to be done.

still think that Obama administration is anti-Israel, or that Obama is a secret Muslim? Now all he has to do is revoke aid to NK, Sikrikim, etc

FYI, the halt in funding has nothing to do with a dicision made by the Obama administration. It is required by a law passed by Congress in the 1990s and signed by President Clinton.

Once things quiet down, they will not only restore the funds they will get a substantial increase. Everything is politics to lull the idiot jews who so easily become overwhelmed and say WOW. The President is mommish such a tsaddik, we can’t believe it. Come back down from the clowds.

This is a bad idea. It will simply reinforce the notion that Jews control United States foreign policy and that the Zionist lobby controls Congress. And cutting off the funding will make no difference, since the Saudis and other oil-rich countries are sure to make up the lost funds. Its bad PR for Jews.

The US taxpayers and unemployed can use this “extra” $60 million – just make sure it doesn’t go overseas or to Afghanistan for “helping” us fight terrorism or to the “illegals” in the US

The US should have allowed the UN as a whole to accept Palestinian membership. Then we could have cut off all of our UN funding and saved ourselves a ton of money.
