Robert E. Quinn, president of the Scranton and Lackawanna County Taxpayers and Concerned Citizens Association, argued in a brief filed in court that the Scranton School Board has failed to prove the school is unnecessary property, a precondition for its private sale.

The board voted in August to sell the school on Quincy Avenue to a New York City rabbi for $400,000.
Rabbi Alter Rosenbaum wants to use the building as a private school for the children of followers who would relocate to Scranton from Brooklyn.

Under state law, the sale must be approved by county court. A hearing on the board's petition to sell the property to Rabbi Rosenbaum is now scheduled for Aug. 9 at 9:30 a.m. before Judge Carmen Minora.
Mr. Quinn, argued the board's petition is flawed because the district did not first determine the property was unnecessary for school purposes. [Times Tribune]
