New York, NY – Barricades that lined Wall Street since Occupy Wall Street protests started six weeks ago were taken down Wednesday — a day after a neighborhood restaurant owner told DNAinfo the barriers forced him to lay off 21 workers.

Minutes after the police blockades came down, Deputy Mayor Howard Wolfson was seen eating lunch in the struggling Milk Street Cafe, whose owner said business had dropped more than 30 percent because of the barricades.
Wolfson, who toured Wall Street with Borough President Scott Stringer and State Sen. Daniel Squadron last Friday to look at the barricades, said Wednesday that the final decision to remove them rested with Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly.
Glad to hear it. I will now go there more often, as it was really difficult getting into the Milk Street Cafe while those barricades were up.
This was the only fair thing to do…there are still retailers suffering because of the insanity down there….the time for this to end is more than overdue. The Mayor is living in la la land if he continues to let this OWS nonsence continue. I have no doubt that the so called occupation is in violation of numerous city rules that are not being enforced because of the Mayors lack of a willingness to throw them out.
How kind of city officials to wait until the owner is almost bankrupt and forced to lay off a good number of his staff members, to allow the barricades to come down. They couldn’t have done this 2 weeks ago???
So all the wharrrrr-garble about the protesters forcing the business to lay of workers was misdirection. The real villains here are the cops.
and of course all our tax paying agencies will want to be paid on time>>>>>>>
#’s 4 + 5 blaming the NYPD for this would be like blaming FDNY for geting the street wet when fighting a fire. If they didn’t contain these radical/malcontents they would probably spill over into the streets and disrupt traffic even more than their presence there is already doing.
In anycase it’s more than time for the Mayor to gather the courage and have them removed. Freedom of speech and assembly are one thing, but ruining peoples businesses and lives is a whole different story.
Is this place kosher? If it is, who is giving the hechsher?
The kosher status is: meat and dairy served in the same restaurant from separate meat and dairy kitchens.
What was the point of the Barricades to begin with? React to legal protests by blocking EVERYONE from using public streets?
