It’s not just government workers abusing parking privileges in Manhattan. The Post last week spotted two cases of private individuals using city agency placards to park illegally.

One man displayed an expired Queens detective division parking permit inside the windshield of his Hummer as his vehicle sat on East 40th Street in a zone designated for those with Economic State Development placards. The agency has offices on Third Avenue near the parking spot.

The man argued that he deserved the privilege.
“I help other people,” he said. “I’m a surgeon, I save lives.”
But the state Office of the Professions told The Post that the registered owner of the Hummer, Harrison Chen, is applying for his dentist’s license and does not hold any other medical licenses in the state.

When asked how he secured his NYPD permit, the man said, “I have a lot of friends – detectives, police officers in the city” [nypost]

If you see anyone abusing, or using an illegal parking permit please email us at VIN with photos.

I don’t care where H parks (NO Standing…) its not like I would be able to get that spot anyway. I just hated that when an H member wants to go through a traffic jam and is not at a call, they will use that siren to get through. Otherwise for the boys of the H keep on doing a great job.

1259 am (you should try sleeping at night).

“in certain areas” does not mean “wherever you want”.

i did not state that you had a permit (i referred to you holding one as you previously stated) or l/s. maybe you are self-conscious.

you should try blogging with out ad-homonym attacks.

anonymity is one of the advantages of blogging. and, i do not owe you proof of my authority; the same as you can choose to not accept it’s validity (preferably politely).

if your friends choose to continue parking illegaly because of their permits they will eventually have to deal with the consequences. abuse of privilege has had bad outcomes in the past, and i am affraid it will again in the future.

11:22 i see you are really an “expert”. just one thing. maybe one day, you’ll come to the realization that you’re not. you aparently read what you wanted to and didnt get the real gist of the message. nowhere in my script did i mention that i have a permit, L&S, nor did i mention that i had ANY affiliation with ANY organization, this was simply your conclusion, and a wrong one i might add. stating that i was reading a permit which belongs to a member which clearly states “parking 24 hours in certain areas” does not indicate anything more than that.
another conclusion jumper, oy vey, and i’m making the chilul hashem???

BTW, since you gloated about being such an important person in a public capacity, exactly what is it that you do?? yeah, didnt think so, another motor mouth.

hatzlocha raboh to you as well, you sure could use it.

in between your insults, you made some points worth responding to.
fyi i have no permits on my car, i never have and i have no intention of ever having one. in my professional capacity i could legitimately obtain one, but i demur because of my landsman that make such an embarrassment and chilul hashem with their ever increasing need to feel important with permits, l/s etc. as a frum person in a public position of responsibility it is very difficult to not be dragged into the morass of bp wb affairs.
if you are holding a valid permit, as you say, you can see that it does not say park anywhere you want on the permit.
DOT gave the permits, because they were instructed to by city officials, so hatzolah members would not get tickets on calls.
any other theories are simply more urban legend. and abuse of the system will be the demise of the system.

I really do hope that you are a buff and not an actual member. because if you are a member hatzolah has really big problems.
believe it or not people can have different opinions from yours. and wishing bad things upon any patient, and a yid, is outright wrong.
oh and i have a life, thank you very much.

7:56, sounds like you’re an expert.

FYI, Hatzoloh fields about 1000 calls a day and the VTL has nothing to do with the DOT permits. i happen to be reading the permit as i write and dont see what you’r refering to. maybe your looking at the “BOGUS” version of the permit, the one you probably got as a bootleg from one of the hockers.

furthermore, the very reason DOT gave Hatzoloh permits is to diretly cut down response time by having immediate access to cars. if that’s abuse, well, then i’m stumped….

4:33 – i hope you’ll never need hatzoloh because as a longtime member, almost 30 years, i’d love to have a delayed response to your house becuase i had to run a block and half to get my car, which was blocked in by a truck, to get to you while you were violently ill.

Shut your jealous, immature mouth, grow up and get a life.

hey 4:33pm ALOT of hatzoloh members have valid permits to park where ever they want, so when there is a call they’re right near their car. and ALL hatzoloh members have a plaque to park where ever, when they’re on a call.

    hundreds of lives a day?

do you think we are living in iraq?

exagerating does not prove your point.

and in fact hatzolah permits are not intended to give you better parking at home or at work. that just is not true. read what it states on the permit, and in the v+t code. it is valid when dispatched for a call only.

why do you think people are jealous of hatzolah.
i have no interest, zero. nothing to be jealous of.
but i am annoyed by h members acting like they have special privileges that they don’t.
the permits for during a call, not they might be called.
if they don’t want to have their lives disturbed then don’t join.
they made a choice, why should i feel sorry for them?

but everybody must agree that a DOT isueed permit for hatzolah members, to park near their homes to be ready to respond quick, IS NOT WHAT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT HERE !!!!!!!!

its not just when they actually go on a call, it allowes them to have it near the office, home so they shouldn’t have to move it around with the alternate side parking etc.

So stop accusing these CHUSHIVA YINGELIET WHO SAVE HUNDRETS OF LIVES DAILY !!!!!

Lets set the facts straight. There is Permits and Plaques, and they are not the same thing. A permit, is something issued by the city allowing specific parking privileges. Hatzoloh and other Emergency agencies, Handicapped, etc. have permits from the DOT allowing them to park. Then there are cars that have plaques. A plaque is nothing more than a paper issued by an agency that says that the owner of the car is affiliated with the agency. A plaque does not give parking privileges, only in areas where the sign says no parking except, as is common with Dept of Ed, Courts, etc.
However, ticket agents have been giving courtesy to any plaque, and in most areas in the city, and half official looking plaque will not get a ticket. Its the plaques that they want to crack down on, not the permits. Even with a crackdown, Hatzoloh will still be able to park in restricted areas.
However, a permit specifically says that it is to be used while on standby for emergency calls, which most H members are. As for their wives/family using them, it is an abuse and they should be ticketed.

It hurts to see the same pepole who wouldn’t think twice before calling Hatzollah or even cheverim to save their or their loved one’s life. They, who expect Hatzollah to give up their night of sleep or their work time, without asking who you are. Could you believe that these are the ones who wouldn’t grant them the privelage of parking at the first available spot to save some time? Do you actually realize the value of a second when a life is at steak? Where do you think your public thrashing will lead to anyway. Do you realize that it could be you or your child suffering the ultimate consequence by going after every offense. You say they abuse their privelage even if a life is not at steak. First you don’t know that and if they do, It is a privelage which they well deserve. GO GET A LIFE

My advice to all of you; Get as much permits as you can!

I live across a Public School and there’s the whole block designated for the Board of Ed. Can anyone explain why they’re(we’re) gettin’ this preferential treatment??? there’s a subway station at one corner and a bus station at the other, why is the City incentisizing them to come by car, in a time when the City is de-centisizing me leave my car at home when going to work??? They leave me with no options, I can’t leave my car at home due to these teachers taking up all the spots, and to go to Manhattan with my car without a permi is senseless.

So anyone out there that can get me a bogus Board of Ed placard I would deeply appreciate.

Waiting to hear from you soon.

Yes, what about Hatzala families using the members car?
What about the restricted parking issued by various city depts? What about the papers issued by hospitals that the doctor is employed there? According to what I was told by DOT they are not worth the paper they are written on exceot PD doesn’t give them tickets.
There are many many abuses by ambulances and doctors who park wherever they want and PD doesn’t ticket.Unless on an EMERGENCY ambulances have to obey rules and regulations. They violate laws left and right and unless you are impacted by their actions no one says anything.Lights and sirens for a stable transport. Keeping engines running more than three minutes. Yes it does impact me.I live across from a hospital.
