State Senate leader Dean Skelos says he’ll co-sponsor the Iran divestment bill with Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver so New York can join the national effort.

Skelos says Thursday New Yorkers must condemn tyrannical governments like Iran’s that sponsor terrorism, have tried to develop nuclear weapons, and threaten Israel.

Skelos is a Long Island Republican sponsoring the bill with Silver, a Manhattan Democrat.

The bill is based on a federal law passed last year that empowers states and local governments to divest from companies that directly or indirectly support Iran’s nuclear weapons effort.

Sponsorship by Skelos and Silver assures its passage in the Legislature.

Do we really want each state and local government to make their own foreign policy? What happens if the good citizens of Michigan with a big arab population decide not to allow any state funds to be invested in companies from EY.
