RALHAL LLC and Concord Estates Condominiums LLC, both formed by Brooklyn-based Congregation Khal Bnei Zion to buy the properties in 2006, are proposing clusters of four-bedroom duplex and single-family homes.

Those homes would be built on five parcels in Fallsburg and one in Thompson and sell for about $225,000 each. They also could generate about $2.1 million in tax revenues for the county, town and the Fallsburg and Monticello school districts.

“The ultimate idea is to expand the activities at the hotel and make the place grow and take it to the next level,” said Mendel Lerner, the attorney representing the properties. “The only way the hotel can survive is if it has more amenities.”

    Another ghetto.

How does building these ultra cheap boxes with 4 bedrooms provide the Raleigh site with “additional ammenities”. I drove by the Raleigh about 2 years ago and it needs totally new tennis courts, pools and fitness center. Maybe they should first upgrade the resort facilities and then consider luxury condos or villas that would include use of those new facilities rather than building some cheap slum housing.

Good idea. Bad timing. You can’t get a mortgage these days so who’s gonna buy? There are loads of these summer homes in foreclosure all over the Catskills.

Since when do shuls have the kind of money that it takes to be in the building business?

Since when is Mendel Lerner an attorney? As far as I know he just manages the place.

Would be a great idea ten years ago, however today nobody can finance it

Why don’t they pursue all year housing ? Mr L could also afford to set up some business there, so the folks have jobs etc. Its really a shame that we don’t pursue this. We have so much infrastructure geared for the hiemishe olam built in the catskils , we have viznitz , that has yeshivas, S. Fallsburg yeshiva, the only major issue is finding employment. Doesn’t BH have hundreds of yungeliet on the phone all day , they could easily transfer call centers, and many other Yiddish business can do the same.
