Rep. Larry Taylor, of Friendswood, who leads the House Republican Caucus and is the chairman of the Joint Legislative Committee on Windstorm Insurance, told officials with the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association, “Don’t nitpick, don’t try to Jew them down.”

Taylor quickly followed that the remark was “probably a bad term,” but he kept speaking without interruption. Through a spokesman, Taylor later issued an apology.

“I inadvertently used a phrase that many people find offensive. I corrected myself immediately when I realized what I had said. I regret my poor choice of words and sincerely apologize for any harm they may have caused,” Taylor said.

A telephone message seeking comment from House Speaker Joe Straus, who is Jewish, was not immediately returned.

Taylor is running for a state Senate seat. As leader of the House Republicans, he was criticized for being one of several House lawmakers absent from the Capitol last June when lawmakers were in special session. Taylor spent a week in the Bahamas on a family vacation.

The hearing was to address the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association, which provides property and business coverage in 14 coastal counties and part of Harris County.

Following Hurricane Ike in 2008, there were numerous allegations of collusion between claims adjusters and the associations. More than 1,900 policyholders sued the association for failing to pay for legitimate damages.

State lawmakers this year approved changes that allow policy holders to sue for their claims and collect double damages, but only if they meet strict new standards to prove that TWIA intentionally denied a legitimate claim.

They just don’t get it, do they? Democrat or Republican, these stupid, ignorant people are the best we can come up with to “lead” us? My G-d. No surprise that we are in the mess we’re in.

This is exactly the kind of thing I see as a I travel the country. He is so antisemitic that he says “…used a phrase that many people find offensive…”. Which means HE finds nothing wrong with it. The fact that he used the term so flippantly tells you that he uses it all the time in his personal life with no consequence.

This is nothing new for anyone who lives or travels the south on a regular basis. When these guy apologize, they are not apologizing at all. HE doesn’t even think he did anything wrong. That’s why the “many people” who find it offensive, does not include HIMSELF.

I have to laugh whenever someone uses a an anti-Jewish stereotype or slur and all the tzaddikim here come out of the woodwork to express their outrage, to vent againt non-Jews (“they all hate is,” etc.) If any of you were the slightet bit honest you’d admit that frum Yidden make bigoted and hateful remarks about other groups all day, every day. In fact, derision of others is so much part of our culture and everyday lives that we don’t even notice it — until someone points it out and is told that such attitudes are derived from this pasuk or from that rebbe, etc. Stop the deceit. Hatred of others is an all too common thing in our own daled amos.

What this sheigetz said is truly terrible. We should demand that there is no tolerance for skotzim who speak about us in such derogatory fashion and that they suffer serious consequences when they do. 🙂

The “non-apology apology”, ie “if this offends anyone, etc.”, is depressing. A real apology means accepting that one did something wrong. Appoogizing the way this jerk did essentially shifts the blame to those who were offended.
