Ramapo, NY – The town responded to a critical draft audit from the state Comptroller’s Office on Friday, meeting a deadline that was extended from Oct. 7.

The preliminary report, released to the town in early September and obtained by The Journal News, comes down hard on the town’s financial health and budgeting practices from 2009 to 2010.

Among other citations, the comptroller reported the town’s budgeting in recent years created deficits that drained more than $4 million from the town’s reserve fund to cover costs heading into 2011.

Town Supervisor Christopher St. Lawrence has said the draft audit is “fraught with factual errors.”

“Our comments substantially correct many misstatements and erroneous conclusions that were in the report, and we assume that the final report will differ dramatically from what was in the draft,” town attorney Michael Klein said. “We are not going to be releasing this until it’s part of the comptroller’s final report.”

I don’t live in the Ramapo/Spring Valley area, but I have observed that Christopher St. Lawrence comes down on the right side of all the issues that are affecting the quality of life and future of the Orthodox Jewish residents. I tend to believe his statement that the preliminary report is full of factual errors. Probably supplied to the investigators by people with an ax to grind. And there are plenty of those.

CSL will be and has become the downfall of Ramapo. You certainly cannot know this by living elsewhere! The town has become slum like, people living right ontop of another, garbage in streets. he has bankrupted the town spending millions of our taxpayer money on a stadium that the citizens voted down! get him out of office this week, and vote for anyone else running! csl is a corrupt politician and we need him out of our town.

#1 , you dont live here in Monsey. Also just because he votes for the approvals on behalf of all the builders and all the shuls that house these builders of multi family houses, doesn’t mean that he knows how to run a Town our size. All he knows is how to line his own retirement account.

CSL caters to the Chareidi developers who I am sure line his pockets nicely. He and the developers have destroyed the quality of life for everyone who does not want to live in or around a ghetto.
Ramapo will show a fine budget right up to the time that CSL is indicted.

I remember visiting Spring Valley for a wedding 35 years ago. There was hardly a charedi yid to be seen throughout the entire county.
