Panetta says he agrees with earlier assessments that a strike would only set Iran’s nuclear program back by three years at most. He says military action could fail to deter Iran and also have repercussions for other countries in the region and for U.S. forces based in the area.

A new report by the International Atomic Energy Agency said for the first time that Iran is suspected of conducting secret experiments whose sole purpose is the development of nuclear arms. Iran insists it is pursuing nuclear energy for peaceful purposes and has warned it would lash back if attacked.

The unintended effect of puttting Obama in a tough spot just as he has to run for re-election.

so ? if it will only set them back 3 years the answer is to attack them every 3 years

So what would you do; wait until a bomb lands in your lap? Three years is three years; breathing room to figure out what to do.

Please stop talking about this. This is something that just won’t happen. I can’t understand why people discuss attacking Iran when it’s so far from reality.
Wake up and stop dreaming, guys

There is no question Iran will use the nukes against israel. It is therefore simply not an option not to attack hard right now before they acquire the weapon. Failure to act now will result in a staggering loss of life.

Strike On Iran May Have Unintended Effect… yeah, and tying my shoes tight might have unintended effects too (i.e. partial loss of blood circulation), but that doesn’t mean that I will go around without tying my shoes at all.

Eventually world leaders will have to take war seriously again. These days everyone wants to look politically correct and more compassionate than the next guy. Truth is, with all these “surgical strikes” against missile silos we are only treating symptoms… not the cause. If the world leaders thought with a “survival mindset”, then there wouldn’t be much hesitation to attach the economic infrastructure of a nation that vows to destroy a peaceful nation. While there, we would seize (with prejudice) all possible resources. This would cripple the evil nation and leave it billions in damages and in a tough place to recoup. This would push said enemy nation out more than 3 years… more like 20+.

Now I invite all the labeling of “armchair analysis”.
