New York, NY – In an effort to create more curbside parking space throughout the five boroughs, the city is planning to install about 500 new muni-meters by the end of the year, a spokesman for the Department of Transportation said.

Muni-meters, each of which collect money for multiple parking spaces and replace about 13 individual meters, allow motorists to pay for parking with city-issued prepaid cards, and in many cases with credit cards. They increase the number of available curbside parking spaces by about 15%, a spokesman said, because drivers pack their vehicles closer together when they are not forced to park directly in front of a parking meter. There are currently 2,580 munimeters throughout the city.[nysun]

TIP #1 : Keep your Muni-Meter receipt for 30 days. People have gotten tickets in the mail and those that had kept their receipts were able to use it as proof of payment and ticket was dismissed.
TIP #2 : If your Muni-Meter stub expired and you got a summons, hang around for someone to come move their car and go over to them and offer them a couple of dollars for their receipt which shows “paid” through the time noted on your summons. This will also be dismissed.
These are tried and true ideas.
    good luck!

If they were just worried about gaining more parking spaces they would paint the curb to show where to park, as they do in many cities.
It’s merely another way to tax us.

this is very good for the city because you cant leave money over in the meter when you druve away from your spot plus if you cant extend the meter time
