The plea was entered today, even as prosecutors added eleven additional counts against the man, Naveed Haq, who has a long history of mental illness.
He initially pleaded not-guilty after the shooting last July at the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle. Six women were shot — one fatally.
But at a hearing today, he changed it to an insanity plea for the 20 charges he now faces.
The initial charges included aggravated murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, and malicious harassment — the state’s hate-crime law. The new charges include five additional counts of malicious harassment, so there is now one count for each victim.
