Groups like the Jewish Defense Organization, based in Midwood, and Bnai Elim, an off-shoot of the infamous Jewish Defense League based in Brighton Beach, are promoting combat classes and weapons training for the Torah reading crowd.

“We have hand-to-hand combat training in Midwood and legal gun training in Long Island,” said JDO spokesman Jeff Klein calling the “movement…a Jewish self-defense renaissance.”

Klein said the classes, held in secret locations in Midwood and on Long Island, have been around for years.

I would join them in a heart beat!

Famous radio talk show host Micheal Savage always says “if Jews would of have come out shooting instead of begging there would have NOT been 6 Million of our brethren dead”

    “Hakol kol Ya’akov, v’hayodaim y’dei Eisav.”

Certainly there is no harm in knowing how to defend one’s self, but anyone who thinks that this is the answer to anti-Semitism is missing the point. The physical world is merely a reflection of the spiritual. We must work on our relationship with Hashem and our fellow man and seek to improve ourselves however we can.

Of course, the latest victim of violence, doesn’t advocate retaliation at all. We could all learn something from Mr. Elek – and it isn’t hand to hand combat.

When you are prepared, you are not scared. And why does this piece call the JDL “infamous”? Seems to perpetuate the stereotype that Galus Jews should be weak, obsequious, and submissive. Good time to be making aliyah. After 2,000 years of tefilos, why are you sitting in Brooklyn? Section 8 and WIC?

    Full of government informants.

If you think that if the Jews had guns in Europe there would be no holocaust, you are mistaken. The Polish had an army and were no match to the nazis. The Israelis have guns and yet everyday stones are thrown at Israeli Jews by Arabs all the time.

The JDL was never headquartered in Brighton Beach the NY Daily News article is wrong.
