Crown Heights, NY - More than 5,000 Lubavitch rabbis, scholars and other representatives of the Hasidic Jewish community are gathered tonight for the closing banquet of the 28th Annual International Conference of Chabad-Lubavitch Emmissaries, which started Wednesday, November 23, in the Crown Heights section Brooklyn.

“We like for this annual meeting to also serve as inspiration for the Shluchim (the organization’s youth), to remind them that they must live their lives in a way where they are helping to improve something or someone,” said Rabbi Mendy Kotlarsky, 30, to Patch.com , Kotlarsky has been a rabbi since he was 21 years old.

“Our goal has always been to help people reconnect with their heritage and make this a better world through acts of kindness.”

"WOW" is all I can say! I have encountered and sought the services of various Shluchim throughout my travels and am always been so amazed at their selflessness and devotion to Torah. May Hakodosh Baruch Hu give them strength to continue their great work.

It is impossible to make a chozer betshuva out of each Yid, , it is more to bring every Jew closer to Hashem.

I would like to think that the Lubavitcher Rebbe and every rebbe of any hat variety would say that at the moment a yid, any yid, has a thought propelling him or her closer to Hashem, be that thought a tangible mitzvah or a theological query, that at that moment, however brief, the yid is a chozer betshuvah, whether or not there has been a conscious rejection of prior conduct. You never know which yid will say yes when you ask he would to try on some tefillin.

These guys really show that the ebeshter intended that we use our sechel and creative skills including the internet and other forms of modern technology. It also shows how wrong and misguided the Rav who spoke at the Agudah convention last week (Schorr?) is with regard to his views on the internet. May the spirit of the rebbe hopefully open the eyes of Schorr and all the other Chareidi zealots who would seek to have yidden live in a dark cave and reject the powerful tools the Ebeshter has provided us to live a better life.

Contrast this and all the good chabad does with the speech given at the Aguda convention harping on the internet and blackberries.

If everyone can take away a bit of inspiration from this event and on a daily basis be a bit more careful how they deal with Jews and non-Jews so that each and everyone of us could be kiddush hashem then we may be zoche to the end of gallut in our time.

I have to admit, having watched video segments from both the Chabad and Agudah meetings, it was like watching a chassanah versus a levayah and I'll let you guess which was which. One was upbeat, positive and rejoicing in what hashem has done for yiddeshkeit and will continue doing and the other was a nonstop cry of "Gevalt yidden" and how we've all gone off the derech and need to do major league tshuvah. Maybe next year, the Agudah will simply cancel their convention and attend as guests of Chabad (I'm sure the shalichim will enjoy the opportunity of doing some really heavy duty outreach)

You are 100 per cent correct and was thinking the same as I finished my comment but I was just answering to no. 2 (Yidaleh) who I think was referring to the chozer b'tshuva as a frum yid.
these shluchim start of with the idea of bringing yidden closer and hopefully many become frum.

If it weren't for Chabad, I wouldn't be the Jew I am today. And the posts here are right - Chabad knows how to use media. I've never heard one shaliach decry technology. They don't analyze it - they UTILIZE it. We can learn from them.

Little kids waving Moshiach flags wa sthe highlight. While i give kudos to the chabad shlichim around the world (the hachnosa orchim & food was unserpassed) and the work they do.But it boils down to 8 people in Honk Kong 2 people in austraila etc. which pales in comparison to the problems that agudas yisroel (which i believe is nothing more then a pulpit organization as far as chizukjk hadas is concerned)is addressing. which is over 50,000 children trying to be raised al pi chinuch hatohor! If you want to see simchas hatora, dont compare chabad to Aguda convention,Go to hakofos in Pupa ,satmer bobov etc Or yeshivas Lakewood Chaim Berlin etc.
The Poroa aduma was also metaher temaim but was also metame tehorim. One canot brag about "kindeling the light of yiddisheit" by extinguishing or downplaying the flame which currently exists by rov rubum shel klal yisroel..

I agree with you completely. I am not a Lubavitcher either, but have met several of them and have studied with them. I notice that the shlichim are always happy and inviting. These shlichim are not individual units - it is definitely a team effort - husband and wife together. The women play a huge part in keeping the Chabad houses up and running. Just cooking for all the guests they have can keep a person continually busy. Aside from that, the women teach many classes and often run child care and kindergartens as well. I know that there are only 24 hours in a day yet these couples manage to fit more than 24 hours of activity into each day - and always with a smile on their face and "would you like something to eat" from their mouths. I love Chabad and I shall continue to support their work and study there even though I know that personally, I will never be Chabad. Yet, I know that I will always be welcome no matter where I fit in on the Judaism continuum.

Actually there are over 2500 Chabad Mosdos and thousands upon thousands of shluchim in all corners of the globe (not just 8 people in Hong Kong and 2 in Australia). The Shluchim who show up to the convention are only a portion of the shluchim who can afford to get away.

Secondly, if you want to see where Lubavitch is holding, Crown Heights is the wrong place to look. The Rebbe wanted his Chassidim to move out and be mekarev yidden; these guys stayed put.

Also, you seem to have a very negative outlook - you should perhaps work on that midah.
