The boy was attempting to cross the road in front of 419 Route 306 to join his father when he was struck by a 2008 Honda Accord.

The accident occurred shortly before 1 p.m., police said, when there were a large number of pedestrians on the road due to the Jewish Sabbath. There are no sidewalks on that section of Route 306.

Because of the heavy pedestrian traffic, cars were moving slowly along the road, witnesses told police.

The boy was treated by Hatzolah Ambulance medics at the scene and was transported to Westchester Medical Center.

I doubt the car was going slowly they all race down 306 like its a raceway! And with the amount of injuries I doubt it

I don’t live in Monsey, but I visit there often. It always bothered me how there are no sidewalks along the 306. This is a residential area and there is no safe way to walk there!

The cars go flying by and the rode turns and swerves. There are areas near South Monsey, for example, which have no sidewalks and almost no street lights. On Friday night people have no choice but to walk in dark swerving streets. It is extremely dangerous.

Every time I’m there, I always think it’s an accidents waiting to happen….

The area was originally a semi-rural type area, not designed for dense populations, and certainly not for large amounts of people dressed in black walking on the road at night.

what a difference what it was designed for
maybe we should say the world was not designed for cars ?
same as you have to live up to the fact of all other things
its about time for our town heads & residents to live by fact & build sidewalks where needed

People who live there who must walk in the Street should wear Reflector Vests on Sabbath as well as every night.

This area was zoned for single family housing, not hundreds and hundreds of people packed in an apartment complex. Walkers never pay attention to the cars and drivers are busy texting and talking on their cell phones at all times. It’s a wonder more people aren’t hurt.

To #15 actually where the apartments and multi housing is there are sidewalks! Where this happened is single houses that pay taxes through there pants and are long overdue for sidewalks how it works in monsey someone gotta get hurt or killed and then u get sidewalks or what was needed

To #9 - I didn&#8 217;t like #8 &#8 217;s despicable remark; however, his asinine remark did not excuse some of the phraseology which you employed, which is more appropriate for truck drivers to use than a frum Yid (i.e.&#8 221; your head situated where the sun doesn&#8 217;t shine&#8 221;).

#22 where do you live? Cause you seem to be saying something that does not exist I live on 306 and first off people pay mortgages its not section 8 housing its multiple or condos but until viola road where there is such housing there is sidewalks maybe cross the street if one side does not have. From viola and on its single housing besides the cemetery.

The chassidim that have over populated the area consider this boy lying in a hospital “collateral damage,” ie; a foreseeable and yes, acceptable result of the overpopulation of the area. Any suggestions from them regarding sympathy are crocodile tears as the rest of the community suffer the results. Boro Park North is a ghetto with trees. Anyone that thinks that just because this happened up the road north of the Weiner Drive lager is just making excuses because the Saturday drivers are frustrated by the entire corridor, and therefore worse drivers. Having seen death occur on this road and having been the victim of a hit and run I can assure you that no stretch of 306 is safe anymore and the overcrowding is the reason.

Would you people please stop arguing on the roads, the housing, day or night… and just focus on the issue!! A little boy is very injured. The point is not how or why. Just keep him in your tefillos and may Hashem have rachmanus on all of us.

The car was going normal speed, The kid had no head injuries besides for a small cut on the forehead, some internal injuries by the belly and a broken femore. He is doing much better now, he is of sedation and is recuperating
