Brooklyn, NY – Grieving siblings say the Midwood hospital where their mother died kept her body in its morgue for seven days before telling them of her demise.

Catherine Hawa died on Nov. 16 at New York Community Hospital — but staffers at the 134-bed acute-care facility on Kings highway didn’t notify her children, Michael and Jeanette, until Nov. 23, the brother and sister charged.
For years, Hawa, whose friends and family called her Kay, sold greeting cards at downtown Brooklyn department store McCrory’s. She was involved in neighborhood groups like the Friends of Kensington, a Kensington Library fundraising group of which she was president.
Her son has early childhood memories of Hawa telling him about going to downtown Brooklyn immigration offices to sign papers vouching for Jewish refugees from Europe.
“She would tell me she felt sorry for the Jews who had been in concentration camps,”
That is awful. Whoever is responsible should be fired instantly!
The story of her being a righteous gentile is fascinating. Why was she never heard of while alive. Is there anyone in the United States that could say that she signed their papers to come here? If it could be verified as true, she should be honored for her most noble deed. If it is correct, she will definately be honored in the world to come.
Wow seems like those are really caring children haven’t even checked up on their mom for a weeks long. They couldn’t care less about her while she was alive, now that they are smelling money through suing, suddenly they are devastated. Do you see the same hypocracy I see?
How do the children have their mother in acute care and not check up on her daily?
May I ask where were the children that whole week. Didn’t they visit? Something does not add up right.
Blame the hospital?? Shame on the kids for not checking on her condition or visiting daily. Then this wouldn’t be an issue
Hospital didn’t say ? Where were her 2 lovely children for 7 days ?
i dont get it…they visited but she wasnt there in her bed. a week went by and she wasnt found?doesnt make sense
is there such a big sacrifies in signing papers vouching for other people?? What would be the consequenses if cought lying??? Dead?????
I completely agree w\all of the posters sentiments here! Where were her kids?! How could they have NOT known their mother had passed on for a week straight?! Such a sad situation!
Regardless, shame on the hospital, no matter how the kids behaved, they have an obligation to tell the family, friends, and if they can’t find anybody… aren’t they at least supposed to notify the local paper or something?! Does anybody know the protocol for such things?
The whole thing seems fishy to me…
I agree with all of you who asked where the kids were! A judge would take one look at such a lawsuit and ask the same!
Smells like bad fish to me.
The whole story is absurd…why, were they on another planet while she lay dying? Got to be much more to this story than this…
to #9 don’t be so bitter. Anyone who stuck their neck out for others and put their own reputation on the line deserves appreciation. Would you sign false papers for some other ethnic minority? Honestly?
Maybe they live out of town.
