Republican officials on Monday told The Associated Press that Quayle plans to announce his support for the former Massachusetts governor Tuesday afternoon.

Romney has an event scheduled Tuesday in Paradise Valley, Ariz., where Quayle has a home.

Quayle served as vice president under President George H.W. Bush. He was a House member from Indiana for two terms and a U.S. senator.

A GOP official familiar with Quayle’s thinking says the former vice president is backing Romney because he views Romney as the most credible candidate in the race. The official requested anonymity to discuss Quayle’s endorsement ahead of the official announcement.

He is right: Romney is the most credible candidate in the race. But who gives a fig about whom Quayle endorses? As I recall, he was quite the lackluster character as VP and kinda faded into oblivion when his term ended.

If this doesn’t demonstrate who the Establishment wants, I don’t know what will. Quayle’s boss, Bush the Elder was the consummate insider. Watch how many Republicans really just want to vote for ABR, Anyone But Romney.

He meant Newt, but even after all these years, the wrong words are still coming out of his mouth.

“Washington – Former Vice President Dan Quayle to Back Mitt Romney for President”

Now that’s what I could at best describe as “a mixed blessing”.

I really don’t get this whole endorsement thing. Why would a voter care that somebody else endorsed a candidate? Don’t we all have our own minds and opinions and don’t we all have the opportunity to do our own research and determine who would best represent us? Why do we need other politicians or celebrities to tell us who they vote for, are their needs the same as ours?
