    Buenos Aires, Argentina – Fox Latin America has apologized for a poll on whether Jews killed Christ that one of its staffers put on a Facebook page promoting the National Geographic Channel’s Christmas special.

    The poll asked readers who they think is responsible for the death of Christ: Pontius Pilate, The Jewish People or the High Priests.

    The Simon Weisenthal Center in Buenos Aires calls it a defamatory reference to Vatican propaganda that “resulted in the persecution and murder of Jews for two millennia.”

    The Jewish group says it’s outraged that Fox would perpetuate an idea that the Vatican annulled back in 1965.

    Fox Spokeswoman Guadalupe Lucero apologized on behalf of National Geographic, saying the poll was removed immediately and measures have been taken to prevent such incidents in the future.

    While this topic is broad and has little consensus, a few facts:

    1) The Talmud, notably in Sanhedrin 43a-b seems to imply that Jesus was in fact executed by the Sanhedrin (not the high priests).

    2) The Talmud, also in Sanhedrin and Sotah also states that about forty years before the destruction of the Temple the Sanhedrin no longer tried capital cases.

    3) Many ‘Rishonim” (perhaps under duress) claimed that the “historical Jesus” was not the notorious Yeshua from the Talmud, who was a disciple of Rabbi Yehoshua Ben Perachia and lived ~150 years before the destruction of the Temple. (Counter to the christian claim that Jesus was killed ~40 years before the destruction).

    4) The New Testament for the most part is NOT eyewitness acounts, but rather an amalgam and retelling of various messianic traditions, stories and fables retold decades after the purported events.

    Opinion: It is my heart felt belief that there was no “historical Jesus”, it was a literary fabrication and amalgam of different stories that occurred in that tumultuous time. How else does one explain the growing anti-semitism seen in the later gospels Luke and Peter. … continued…

    Wait…. Fox put out some ridiculous, unscientific poll for no reason other than shock value? I’m stunned. I can’t imagine Fox (News Corp) doing something like that!*

    * Sarcasm 100% intended.

    How else does one explain the ‘casting’ of the villain in the New testament as ‘JUDAS’, the name and appellation of all Jews. The latter gospels: Luke, Peter appealed to a less Jewish and more Greek and gentile audience. This allowed for the authors of the NT to become more vile and hateful toward the pharisaic Jews. Not only were Jews vilified and targeted because of the rejection of their messiah/(god). But because of the more severe persecution they endured under certain roman emperors/Caesars; namely Marcus Aurelius ( no coincidence that he was friends with rabbi Yehuda haNasi).

    Interesting to note that in the RambaN’s dispute with pablo there was no mention , of the Jews’ fault in Jesus execution.

    Nothing to apologize for – it is important to know how many people believe that

    …In addition, the Gemara in Sanhedrin states that Jesus/Yeshua was killed on ‘Erev Pesach’. (last supper? or the night before the last supper?)

    As far as crucifixion, yes the Romans did crucify, but the Sanhedrin also hung people for certain offenses as stated in the Talmud 45b. The idea of crucifixion may have been based on a Greek translation of hanging, when indeed the Sanhedrin hanged a certain Yeshua AFTER he he was stoned for idolatry/blasphemy/incitement to idolatry. It may also have been a ‘Horoas Sha’ah’ and they may have killed them or have the Romans kill him, because of extenuating circumstances, and not based on the letter of the law.

    Interestingly, as far as we know the Sanhedrin didn’t try capital cases on Erev Yom Tov, however a Zaken Mamreh, or a Mesit U’mediach was executed during the festivals.

    opinion: I believe the story of the three kings was an attempt to bring a sense of biblical reality to the story of Jesus’s birth by echoing the story of Abraham and the three angels. However because early Christians were by far ‘amHaratzim’ they confused ‘Malachim’ with ‘Melachim’ and hence the story of the three kings was born.
