Photo by Yoav Ari Dudkevitch / flash90 Beit Shemesh, Israel - Israeli police say a group of ultra-Orthodox extremists have attacked a woman who was putting up posters in a troubled town near Jerusalem.

Advertisement:

Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld says about a dozen ultra-Orthodox men in the town of Beit Shemesh surrounded the woman on Tuesday, pelted her with stones and slashed her car’s tires. He says the woman suffered minor injuries.

Rosenfeld says it’s not clear why she was targeted. The woman was putting up posters for Israel’s national lottery at the time.

Beit Shemesh has experienced sharp tensions between ultra-Orthodox extremists and its remaining secular and modern Orthodox Jewish residents. The recent case of an 8-year-old girl who was afraid to walk to school because extremists spat on her and cursed her attracted international attention.

What wasn't mentioned is that she provocatively entered the sikrik shul to hang up the notes.

Still, the extremists should be locked up forever.

We'll also get to the media comparing all charedim to them. They are a tiny minority. When was the last time we heard of violence outside that neighborhood and meah shearim? I know, in secular neighborhoods in the daily murders and rapes.

If that includes throwing rocks at people's heads, PLEASE don't let them live their life how they want!

Agreed for a change. Put these dogs down and authorize the police to use all necessary force to stop this madness once and for all. It would be very sad if the next step is to consider expulsion of chareidim from EY but that increasingly looks like it might be necessary.

You can't call for those "violent dogs" to be put down in the streets! I totally understand your frustration & sympathize w\it too, as a woman of course!

You move into a neighborhood. It doesn't make it your neighborhood. You are the victim. Everyone comes and does terrible things to you. You respond in kind. You throw stones. You spit on children. You blame the secular. I am glad that you don't want your children to look at ugly ladies. Your children have better things to do. Possibly learn English.
You should be allowed to walk around Tel Aviv without anyone pulling your beard or stealing your hat. You should add spell check to your computer or write on a non English speaking site.

Alterg, what you fail to realize is "it is not YOUR neighborhood". The neighborhood is part of a country which has laws. I am sure you know the difference between reshus hayachid and reshus hayachid. You cannot enforce ur meshigas on public streets. The diamond center in NY is full of chareidim. They wouldnt dare try this crap there. So spare me the BS about media attention. Nothing, repeat, NOTHING, gives these animals the right to throw rocks, flatten tires, and spit on people. NOTHING. And that is precisely what they are. Animals. No learning, No working, just a bunch of leidig gaiers.

To # 16, the children going to school in Beit Shemesh weren't in someone else's neighborhood. And the reaction to something disliked by this ultra group is far from okay. It was reported in this website that when the 6 people were arrested for fraud, the Eida said they will "burn down Yerushalayim". EVEN TZIPI LIVNI wouldn't say that! Has everyone lost their minds?

Only the pretty ones?

Anyhow your people consider tel aviv goyish? Makes sense because it's a Jewish city in a Jewish country. Jews are goyim to you because you are a different religion. Mibnei banav Shel haman? Erev rav? Would be an interesting study. At any rate, you sickos had better learn to get along with other cultures, especially Jews since you happen to live in their country.

AlterG, I am amazed that you consider yourself justified, no matter with these "ugly ladies dressed like shiktzes in hollywood or vages" do.
You're OK with throwing rocks at people's heads? Have you lost your mind? Do you really believe this is what the Torah wants?
Do you consider your actions like Pinchos against Zimri? Are you 100% l'shim Shomayim? Because there was only one Pinchos in our history! And if you aren't 100% l'sheim shomayim, which I really don't think you are, then you are a rasha! Do you have the power of a Sanhedrin to inflict physical harm to others? You are a disgrace to all frum Yidden and you are a huge Chillul HaShem, who pats himself on the back thinking you are the tzaddik.

Just one question for you, because you probably don't have enough mental capacity for a second question: Did secular Israelis throw the stones, or was a group who call themselves charedim?

For everyone else, we all understand that media campaigns have NOTHING to do with these criminal acts. We don't care what anyone writes in newspapers. The thugs should all be locked up and prosecuted accordingly. No excuses. Enough is enough.

It's pashut that all women are the same as that man. Every woman is a yetzer hara on legs, because she forces men to do avairos (because, of course, men cannot control themselves). So it's pashut that every woman must be thrown out from any place where a man might see her!
If anyone disagees with this, they are koifer beToras Moshe Rabbeinee and they are not Jews.

"Rosenfeld says it’s not clear why she was targeted. The woman was putting up posters for Israel’s national lottery at the time."

The key words in the story, as reported above, are: "woman" and "putting up posters".

Her attackers did not stop to consider *what* sort of posters she was affixing. Not every piece of public wallpaper in Israel is necessarily a pashkevil.

And of course we cannot forget the erotic effects just being a woman has on the stunted and perverted sex-drives of the charedi male in Beit Shemesh, can we?

"Why are the men looking closely enough at the lady to see what brand cell phone she was using??"

Where is the word "telephone", or anything remotely resembling it, even mentioned in the original story?

As there is no picture or photograph of any kind attached to the story (at the moment these words are being typed, at least) where does the issue of "men looking closely enough" come from?

Again, as there is no picture evidence how can we (the readers of this sorry saga) know whether or not her hair is covered?

Lastly, she was putting up posters for the National Lottery, and NOT the National Torah Front.

I don't hate chareidim. I do not hate you. I don't even dislike you since I don't know you, but I I am always amazed that a person who hates Zionism and Israel also has such a problem with the truth. We all saw the videos and I for one do not understand what you believe it proved 100%.
Perhaps it is hoping to much, but I hope that at some time you take your own advice and not start spewing your vitriolic hated.

No one provokes evil.
A. Why are the men looking closely enough at the lady to see what brand cell phone she was using??
B. Who said she was married and needed to cover her hair?

NO EXCUSES for these animals!

Sarcasm doesn't come across very well in print, does it?
To clarify, those are the questions the apologists will ask as they weep and tear their hair about how she provoked them and at their supposed oppression.

anyway,im actually gonna play devils advocate here....do u knw tht if u were 2 go 2 Dubai or arab emirites....they give u,ur company & all employees a handbook of how u hav 2 dress in their country & certain neighborhoods. i know this since my friends husband was supposed 2 go w/ his company & he recieved the handbook-- which was interesting & terrifying-he did not go-(prob. a good idea since he is a jew)also,i hav seen kim kardashian speak abt this whn she went 2 dubai...(on tv..omg!! im a rasha...menuval..) & on the "real housewives of ny" whn they wnt last season....violence is wrong..but why do chilonim have 2 enter these neighborhoods? 4 all of u who think im wasting my time watching tv...geuss what it keeps me off the phone & away from loshon hara & i still get to daven maariv...

" ... i have cable."

That is an awful and appalling admission! How this, this -- woman has the effrontery and the gall to dare to pollute our holy discussion page here on VIN is totally beyond all human comprehension.

Why do some posters insist on comparing chareidim to arabs ? "The police wouldn't dare arrest arabs." "No woman would dare go by herself to an arab neighborhood to hang signs." I EXPECT MORE from the chareidim/sikrikim ! They learned the same torah I learned (right ?). They are an integrated part of the ramat bet neighborhood, supported by the rabbonim in bet.

You're missing the point my friend.
The question/point is, if she'd do the same thing in an arab area you'd say she provoked it. Get it?

It's pashut that all women are the same as that man. Every woman is a yetzer hara on legs, because she forces men to do avairos (because, of course, men cannot control themselves). So it's pashut that every woman must be thrown out from any place where a man might see her!
If anyone disagees with this, they are koifer beToras Moshe Rabbeinee and they are not Jews.

and even stoning comes with bais din and hisrua. and eidim. why dont they start doing this stuff in wmsbg or boro park ?
this is what i like to refer to as a "chusid shoiteh" ( my favorite saying)
oh yeah,I grew up in wmsbg. (chaimish not chassidish. ) so i know the system.

Animals. No learning, No working, just a bunch of leidig gaiers.

hey, this stuff happens in williamsburg too. just not as openly,or as extreme in nature.
you never heard of fights happening in kiryas joel?
Years ago i was filming the rite of the annual burning of the Israeli flag on Lee ave and Hewes st ( where i grew up ) and a crowd starting coming after me as they saw me filming the ceremony ( stupid of me,not realizing the danger of doing this in enemy Territory) at first slowly, then the pace turned into me running as fast as i could to get away from the UGLY crowd.. They wanted to lynch me. And i was wearing my hat and suit l'kovod Purim.
Thank g-d I was able to get to my car and escape. who know's what would of happened to me and my family?
Most of you out there ( who didnt grow up in a chassidishe "shtetl" ) ,dont know what "charidish", no, charidish is a holy concept, let's use EXTREME "people" are capable of doing. and this includes the children too.
As happened way back when Pupa took over the old Torah Vodaas shul on wilson st. I walked in to daven and a small pitzele maybe 4 years old says to his mother: " mammee keek a goy. mit a kaapele." The mother turned many colors from embarrassment. know what i 'm talkin?

Bizarre, you seem to depise slight violence but you have no problem with murder. get a grip of yourself.

There is a very real distinction between murder and self defense. These rodefs committed lethal violence against her with murderous intent. If she had used violent means to stop their crimes it would have been justified by Torah and by secular law. That is not murder.

Speaking as someone who has a certain amount of skill and experience let me offer an informed, professional opinion. She was attacked by a group of men. They had deadly weapons. They tried to commit acts against her which could reasonably be expected to cause death or serious bodily injury. The form of attack they used - stoning - is one which that group traditionally has used as a method of execution. They brought chemical weapons which they knew could blind her. They also used knives of some sort to disable her car - more deadly weapons - and which made it more difficult or even impossible to flee safely.

She tried to ask them to stop their attacks pleading that she was a Jew like them. They continued the attacks.

She was in reasonable fear of death or serious injury. Using a firearm would have been absolutely justifiable in the face of that fear. If attackers died, that would be better than her dying.

The higher one climbs, the further they have to fall.

The difference is secular Jews don't PRETEND to be guardians of Torah, so whatever they do it is not so-called 'in the name of Hashem'.
The community the extremist come from make such a big thing of being guardians of Torah, and yet when it comes to dealing with bad things within their own community they are silent and try to ignore it. This is a Massiv Chillul Hashem, bigger then any supposed "daily murders and rapes."

If they or their community were really holy would follow in the footsteps of Aaron HaCohen, they would take action against those so publicly profaning Hashem's name and be pursuers of peace, fellowship and love amoungst Beni Yisrael.

very simple: those who say 1) violence is bad but 2) what the press are doing to the chareidim's image is really, really bad, and until #2 stops don't expect #1 to stop, are really saying something else:

Violation #2 bothers me a lot more than violation #1. Witnessing violation #1 will not move me to demad that stops. (because the victims aren't from "our camp") But violation #2 bugs me so much - it hurts "unzerer - us frummer". Oy, we poor chareidim what the secular are doing to us.... that has to stop! gevalt! lma'am Hashem , make it stop!!
