Backed by the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association, the bill would make it illegal for supervisors to require cops to make a certain number of arrests over a specified period.
Ridiculous.
a breath of fresh air
The issue is how to assess performance in a consistent way that disincentivizes unethical or illegal activities – such as writing summons for non-existent violations, while providing sanctions for police personnel whose paltry production is proof that they goof off on the job. Were this law to be enacted, it shouldn’t be interpreted by any citizen to believe that they are entitled to special privileges, regardless of neighborhood, ethnicity, difficulty in finding parking spaces, or any other factor unrrelated to the perceptions of unfair treatment. The number of tickets written should be based on genuine violations of statutes, and should be only one of many different metrics used to determine whether the public is getting a fair day’s work out of a given policeman.
Finally. Someone advocating for innocent citizens being criminalized for someone else’s greed.
I won’t get the butterflies when I start my engine the last days of the month.
I might move to NY just to vote for this guy. Too bad he isn’t an Illinois legislator.
I could probably vote in Chicago without ever even visiting. In fact, for all we know, we all have been voting in Chicago elections without knowing it all along. 🙂
he got one ticket too many i guess
Sad to say that I have personally seen an Officer not telling the truth in traffic court.
Shameful!
