People gather to pay respects to the shooting victims of Mohamed Merah in Toulouse, France, Friday March 23, 2012. France's prime minister fended off suggestions Friday that anti-terrorism authorities fell down on the job in monitoring a radical Islamist who gunned down children, paratroopers and a rabbi in a wave of killings that revolted the country. Merah, who claimed allegiance to al-Qaida died Thursday during a gunfight with police following a 32-hour standoff outside his apartment in the southwestern city of Toulouse. (AP Photo/Thibault Camus)Paris – French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s spy chief says a gunman who killed three young children and a rabbi at a Jewish school only attacked the school after missing his original target — a French soldier.

Ange Mancini, Sarkozy’s intelligence adviser, said on French TV that Mohamed Merah had wanted to kill a soldier he had targeted Monday in Toulouse, but arrived too late and instead besieged a nearby Jewish school.

Mancini told France-24 TV on Friday that “it wasn’t the school that he wanted to attack,” calling school shooting “opportunistic.”

Merah, a 23-year-old Frenchman of Algerian descent, was killed Thursday in a shootout after police raided the Toulouse apartment where he had been holed up for 32 hours in a standoff with authorities.

That’s why Yidden the world over cannot give terrorists the OPPORTUNITY to attack. Armed guards must be posted at all yeshivas and shuls.

They are trying to concoct a lie to avoid the backlash. They dont want to admit how bad it is for yidden in France. Why are there 500k yidden in France? There are 5 million muslims.

    Yeah Sure!

I think it was all “an accident” and “a mere tragedy” and he just meant to “polish his gun”, and it went off by accident.

Another Arab Apologists trying to make the Arab world look like “mentchen” instead of Animals.

If you want to Kill and Armed soldier it makes you “cause” look good and respectable but if you say the truth that your “cause” is OK with killing school children it turns the entire world on all Muslims.

Muslims, now have no choice but to LIE, that it was all coincidental and LIE that no Arab official entity, had ordered him to do it and it was nut murder but a circumstantial and “opportunistic” event but not Representative of the deep wish in EVERY Muslims heart.

You mean that when he said “I wanted to avenge the Palestinian children” he was going to do that by killing a soldier?!!

It reminds me of the slaughter at Chabad House in Mumbai, India. The Pakistani terrorist had “accidentally” come upon the hidden house, according to reports in some of the media then.

what is so hard to believe he killed soldiers before?

Of course it really makes no difference since once he couldn’t get his first target went after a second target

We’ll never know if this is true or not. If the killer left a to-do list reading “10:30 – Shoot another soldier. 10:45 – That didn’t work. Find a teacher and some kids to shoot instead” we might. Otherwise it’s speculation. Since his first three victims were paratroopers of African or Arab descent it’s not completely out of the question.
