“Operation Hang Up” starts Monday and runs through next Sunday.

The first “Operation Hang Up” campaign took place over last year’s Thanksgiving holiday. Troopers ticketed more than 800 drivers.

The enforcement campaign is funded through a grant from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed a new law to strengthen enforcement of texting-while-driving violations last July. The law makes texting while driving a primary traffic offense, giving police the power to stop drivers solely for texting.

Also, the penalty for using a handheld device while driving has been increased from two to three points on your license.

Yidden you are duly warned. Don’t cry next week that you were ticketed on the NYS Thruway on your way back from shopping at Woodbury Common!

All these laws do is make it more dangerous, because now we text looking down instead of looking straight ahead.

Try Route 17. You can always tell the cell phone drivers, they weave & drive like snails. Should get quite a few up there!

they should increase the fine for serious violations like texting red lights etc’ to $1000 and four points. if a driver want’s to risk his life good for him, but why should he risk other peoples lives? if you dont like the laws of driving, don’t drive.

The Gov. should also inforce the Law to fine a person who cross the street on Red while talking on a cellphone.
many people walk into the running cars on the road due to the Cell.

Although I am in agreement with this law/fine, it unfortunately turns into a money grab for the city/state. Focus is lost on the essence of the law and is directed instead on harassing NY citizens.

Texting while drive? You should have both your phone AND your car confiscated, as you have demonstrated that you can’t be trusted with either.
