Officials said Carlos Merino Santiago, 21, was doing “donuts” and other maneuvers on the golf cart before it rolled over and pinned him underneath. Detectives believe alcohol may have been a factor on the incident.
Santiago was part of a maintenance team preparing the bungalow colony for its opening in a few weeks.
How is it possible to do “donuts” in a little golf cart? These things don’t go much faster than my shver can walk.
Legitimate golf cars used on a golf course had a device (i think its called a “governor”) which controls speed to much less than 20 mph…this must have been some type of hot rod adopted for use away from the course….
P.S. baruch hashem, my shever still walks at a nice pace…
It’s easy to see how it could tip over even when traveling at a lot less than 20 mph. This is why golf carts, ATVs, etc should only be driven by responsible adults who are aware of what can happen. Too often, people don’t realize there’s a safety issue, or they let their kids drive them, etc.
what does “doing donuts” mean? B”H I have no idea but it sounds crazy. Is that like a “wheely”?
These golf carts typically weigh between 500 and 600 pounds.
Having one roll over onto a person can very easily be deadly.
Unfortunately these are often times second or third sales and the speed governor device has been removed. Combine that with driving on hilly terrain and you have a dangerous situation for ANY driver.
Golf carts are not toys and people should keep this story in mind when summer arrives.
What we take out is that H’ send to us a reminder for the Mitzva of V’nishmartem M’oid L’nafshoseichem! its before the summer and we need to be very careful with our children and all around. should the summer be a healthy and peaceful one.
Sadly, there is a double standard. If he was a Yid, there would be many more laments. I guess it’s because Lo Tamod Al Dam Re’acha applies only to a Yid.
