The Senate Agriculture Committee recently approved a farm and food plan with more than $4 billion in cuts to food stamps. Gillibrand was the lone Democrat on the committee to vote against the measure.

Gillibrand will appear in Manhattan on Monday to argue against the cuts along with advocates, food stamp recipients and Tom Colicchio (kahl-ICK’-ee-oo), the co-host of Bravo’s “Top Chef.” They fear the cuts will hurt low-income families.

Gillibrand plans to introduce an amendment to restore the proposed cuts by reducing federal subsidies for crop insurance companies.

The full Senate could vote on the bill this week. It faces possible resistance in the House.

Reducing crop insurance subsidies for crop insurance companies? What does that mean?
That means that they insurance companies will charge more for the insurance policies. And the consumer will pay for it.

Lower the taxes so that more people will have more $$ to stimulate the economy. It worked for Reagen.

I know my Jewish brothers and sisters dont like to hear this, food stamps HAVE to be cut, and should be limited to 3 months or six months except for people with extreme situations (divorcees, the sick, etc) — its time we turned the clock back 20 or 30 years when food stamps was a shame and embarrsement and no-one starved (I am old enough to remember this), if we were out of a job you went out and worked a temp job until you found a new job or opened a new business.

And its the same for all government programs like section 8 and medicaid — it makes you look like a fool to go out and work and make a decent living when you can stay home and do nothing and just “collect” your government programs.

Entitlements like food stamps bring out the worst in people by them lazing at home all day or people working off the books. I sometimes think of the kids of these families whom the father does nothing so why would there kids do anything too ??? And dont worry the kids still have all the latest junk and computer games, all the while living off food stamps. America 20 – 30 years ago didnt have all these give-aways from other taxpayers and was doing very well!!

Obaama increades food stamps in 2009 by 13% in 2009 — as a pay-off to the people that voted him in, and it makes it not worthwhile to work.
Food stamps should be limited to 6 months at the most.

Instead of focusing on food stamps, Senator Gillibrand should focus on the skyrocketing cost of food. The huge toll increases around New York have made it much more expensive to transport food into New York City. In addition, Bloomberg and the City Council have dramatically increased the cost of parking a delivery truck, which has also impacted food prices in the City.
Gillibrand is ignoring the causes of higher food prices.
