    Gaidis Berzins is a member of the right-wing National Alliance, and has opposed giving preference in property restitution issues to any one ethnic or religious group.

    But Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis has been pressuring Berzins to approve laws needed to help Jewish organizations and individuals reclaim their property or be compensated if it was not possible.

    My father came to the US in the 1930’s from Lebau, Latvia. The family that was left there was rounded up into the shul and the shul was set on fire.
    Part of me says that they have to pay, while part of me says that I don’t want a penny from them.
