New York – A law enforcement official says a DNA match has linked crime scene evidence from a New York City drama student’s unsolved 2004 death to a chain collected after a protest that claimed affiliation with Occupy Wall Street this spring.

The official told The Associated Press on Tuesday a database recently matched DNA on the chain to material on a compact disc player found near Sarah Fox’s body. But the DNA hasn’t been matched to anyone.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the official wasn’t authorized to discuss the investigation.

Fox disappeared after going running. Her body was found in a park six days later.

The chain was used to hold open an emergency exit gate during a March 28 protest at a Brooklyn subway station.

NBC 4 New York first reported the DNA match.

Why in the world did they lift the prints from the chain?

A murder linked to a crime scene linked to a chain linked to the site of a protest linked to a group that claimed to be linked to OWS. That’s 5 degrees of separation almost as many links as between total strangers.

No way! A member of the OWS movement is a low life criminal? What a shocker!! I thought they were all hard working, blue collar people trying to get a better life for the “99%”. This cant be true.

Wow! What assumptions are being made here. Just because dna was found that linked the two crimes, doesn’t mean that the person who committed the murder was the one who used the chain at the protest. One of the OWS protestors could have gotten the chain from their parent’s garage and their father or another sibling is the murderer; they could have gotten the chain from the murderer off of Craig’s List; the murderer could be an employee of NYC who came in contact with the chain. Or the DNA could come from someone who isn’t the murderer, but for some other reason their dna was found on the cd player.
