The figure was issued Tuesday by Mayor Michael Bloomberg and City Council Speaker Christine Quinn.

They say at least 8,200 same sex marriage licenses have been issued. That accounts for more than 10 percent of the 75,000 marriage licenses issued in the city since July 24, 2011

One year ago, New York became the largest state to legalize gay marriage. Ceremonies in the cultural, media and business hub of New York City amped up the national spotlight on the issue.

However, no state has enacted a law allowing gay marriage since New York.

According to the CDC over 60% (30K) of the 50K people with HIV in NYC are gay. The cost of HIV treatment per year is over $20K so $20K X 30 gay people = $600 MILLION PER YEAR. Even though people were gay b4 the marrige bill making it seem mainstream definitly increases the behavier.
So yes the city made (maybe) $300 million but we are losing over $600 million treating these people Great!!. Oh I forgot HIV is not a problem mezizah Bpeh is!!.

What could possibly be a protest response?

To make a point of MOVING at least some part of chasuna business transactions out-of-state, say to New Jersey, would add expense and inconvenience, and chasunas are already too expensive.

So, maybe make a point of reducing the expense of chasunas conducted in New York state, period, as a protest act against this legalization. It doesn’t sound like a direct response, but an act of protest is what the protesters claim it is. This ‘act of protest’, if publicized and widespread, might have four constructive consequences, in that it would: a] reduce the expense of chasunas; b] counter the claimed effects of the legalisation (for the amoral who justify their actions based upon its monetary benefit); c] be a persistent call for repeal of the legislation; d] encourage New Jersey to continue not to legalize.

The results would be a counter-statistic, that legalization has hurt the economy by n dollars, and less debt for families marrying off their children in New York state. Halachically, it would not be any nezek to frum business owners in the chasuna economy; however, it would reduce their cashflow, income, and possibly standard of living.

[continuation] And, this needn’t be a protest limited to chasunas; there are plenty of goyim looking for ways to protest legalization, and they spend money on weddings.

I don’t mean to distract or detract from my previous points, but I can’t resist this…

The mayor would find himself in an interesting situation if part of a protest against legalization was to reduce chasuna expenses by not serving sugary drinks.

So tomorrow they will legalize pot and weed and then they will say it earned the city 500 million???

If you go the NYC website, you can find the press release in which they show how the number is calculated. From everything I’ve heard, homosexuals have more disposable income that heterosexuals since they tend to have no children. Therefore it’s not surprising that they spend a lot on weddings.
