New Zealand – Chilling Admission By Suspected Nazi: “Jews Screamed Like Geese When They Were Shot”

New Zealand – Nazi Hunter, a documentary which will air on New Zealand television for the first time tomorrow, features suspected Nazi and war criminal Jonas Pukas who told his interviewer that Jews who were shot by Nazis “shout like geese you know.” He then made the sound of weeping birds and laughed when he said that as the Jews were murdered, they “fly in air.”

According to the Daily Mail (http://bit.ly/NnWSW4), Pukas, a Lithuanian immigrant, now deceased, was 78 at the time the interview was conducted in1992 at his home in New Zealand. He died in 1994 at the age of 80 and never conceded to having played any role in the slaughtering of Jews. “I only heard the people dying. I did not see it,” Pukas said.

The documentary was captured on film by Detective Wayne Stringer, 56, who was researching a list of 47 potential war criminals made known to the New Zealand government by the Simon Wiesenthal Centre. It was directed by Alexander Behse, a German. The Simon Wiesenthal Centre has said Pukas was involved in the murder of Jews as part of the mobile murder squad. He served in the 12th Lithuanian Police Battalion. The murderers traveled from village to village rounding up Jews and then shooting them in forests in Eastern Europe.

Detective Stringer said that Pukas’ testimony was the “spine” of the documentary. “It still haunts me,” he said. “I’m confident Mr. Pukas was a war criminal.” Stringer admits, “I got far more emotionally involved in the war crimes investigation than anything else I’d ever done in the police.” He added, “Genocide is still occurring in all sorts of places around the world. That is why this film is important.”

It’s likely that at least “a handful” of Nazi war criminals avoided prosecution for their crimes by hiding out in New Zealand for the remainder of their lives, Stringer noted.
