Secret Service spokesman Brian Leary says 31-year-old Anton Caluori was arrested Tuesday at an apartment in Federal Way for investigation of making threats against the president and assault on a federal officer.

U.S. attorney’s spokeswoman Emily Langlie says the threat was sent to a general purpose FBI email address.

A Secret Service agent and a Federal Way police officer went to an apartment, knocked and announced themselves for about three minutes, then found themselves facing a man armed with a shotgun when the door opened.

Leary says Caluori is set to appear at 2 p.m. Wednesday in court.

Threats against any public official cannot and should never be tolerated. We here in the USA vote out those who we dislike or disagree with..violence against those in office is not our way. I will not vote for Mr. Obama, but respect the office he holds…those making threats need to be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

Exactly. And before people begin posting here that the government is violating this guy’s First Amendment right to free speech, let’s be clear that they are not. The First Amendment protects mean-spirited and hateful speech regardless of how distasteful, but it does not protect the right to threaten or harass, regardless of whether the speaker ever intended to act on it (I know, I practice law and teach in this area).
