Los Angeles fire Capt. Jaime Moore says four of the children were in critical condition when firefighters arrived but they were stabilized and are now in serious condition at a hospital.

Moore says some of the victims were trapped under the powder blue Cadillac before witnesses helped pull them out.

Police identified the driver as 100-year-old Preston Carter. Investigators are interviewing him and say he is being cooperative.

This guy’s first car was Model T. Age limit laws should be set when it comes to driving. No one should be behind the wheel after 73.

When my father was in his eighties I begged him to stop driving. He refused. I went to the police, & they told me that only his Doctor could have his license rescinded. I asked his doctor, after he had another fender bender, and he refused, I begged his doctor after the next fender bender, but, after his third fender bender I told his doctor that if my father has another accident and my father or someone else gets hurt, I would sue HIM !! Then and only then did the doctor write a letter to the DMV to rescind my fathers license. This is in NYS.

Whereas I certainly believe that at some point keys need to be taken away from the elderly, I also believe that anyone over the age of 65 (and I am almost there) need to have a refresher course as well as a driving test. We all understand that our motor skills diminish as we get older. This isn’t the first time such a thing has happened and I’m sure it won’t be the last. I feel badly for the old man, he must feel terrible. I hope all those injured will have a speedy recovery

Every time your license expires you need to take a reading test and driving test. After 75 they should do this every two or three years as opposed to the five year span between renewals.

Last year I visited cousins of mine who live in Canada. I will not name the city because it might help to identify the ‘dramatis personae’ in this anecdote. Anyway, I was met at the airport by my (middle-aged) cousin who was accompanied by her 91-year old father.

I will leave it to you to guess which of them drove the car back to the family home, but suffice it to say he drove perfectly – and through very heavy rain, too.

Dont be so hard on the person who says “seventies” is too old to drive. He meant “eighties”. He could not possibly have meant 70s. My parents are both in their seventies and are driving just fine. Eighty is a great time for the DMV to retest — but do it on the highway!!, not local driving. In any event, this is a sad story. Drive carefully!! Good Shabbes.
