Jerusalem – Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky: “There Will Be No Bombs in Bnei Brak”

Jerusalem – Concerned that their city might also become a target for Gazan missiles, many religious Jews in Bnei Brak have turned to Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky for advice as tensions continue to escalate in Israel and the threat of a ground war in Gaza remains imminent.

Seeking to allay the fears of his neighbors, Yediot Ahronoth reports (http://bit.ly/SbQyFl) that Rabbi Kanievsky published a letter on the front page of the Yated Ne’eman wherein he promised that “there is nothing to be afraid of” because “there will be no bombs in Bnei Brak.”

Rabbi Kanievsky, the nephew of the Chazon Ish, cites his uncle’s words as evidence that the residents of Bnei Brak will be protected, saying, “When Chazon Ish of blessed memory (Rabbi Avrohom Yeshaya Karelitz) said that there will be no bombs in Bnei Brak…that will certainly happen today, too,” Rabbi Kanievsky wrote.

“The words of righteous men are not necessarily abolished after their death,” he added, as a means of explaining that the Chazon Ish’s promise still holds true.

It is well-known that during the Gulf War, missiles landed in cities surrounding Bnei Brak, but not a single missile landed inside the city itself.

It should be noted that reb chaim nevertheless encourages people to run to shelters when the siren goes off.
This is not something to play games with.

If I recall, there were Gedolim who said the yidden shouldn’t run away in the early part of WWII too.

Wow! A lesson in Emunah Pshutah from the Sar HaTorah!
Isn’t there also a Midrash that says – “פתי יאמין לכל דבר” – on Moshe Rabbeinu? that after all his מדריגות he still still believed in Hashem with Emunah Pshutah

Rabbonim had said as well that no harm would come to Kiryat Malachi — this was just before three frumme yidden were killed there.

reply to #2 Those who urged to stay at wwII was not because they ”promised” nothing will happen, they just believed that the odds of something this bad are low, and the probablams facing relocation are extremely difficult, they choose staying above leaving. but nobody promised anything and surely not in writing as bold as this letter from Rabbi Knievsky

The chabad rebbe used to quote a posuck that g-d is constantly watching the whole Israel but that we must push the government to do more. He said giving back land was dangerous – like we see Gush Katif is now a launching sight – He said its not too late to correct the mistake and take back the land that was given and stop talking about giving away more.

Just so I understand….Bnei B’rak is “protected” but Yerushalayim, Tzfas, Tveriah, etc. had better watch out because the Chazon Ish and Reb Chaim didn’t say they were under this special umbrella.

And those who bought the Segulah wine pushed by R’ Kanievsky are also guaranteed that no grad missiles will come down on them. Since I don’t live in BB and didn’t buy a bottle I head for the shelter when the Color Red siren goes off. So far it has worked fine.
