The incident has revived the ongoing controversy over the exclusion of women.

ISRAELHAYOM (http://bit.ly/XmXj9C) is reporting that the teen confessed to police and has been released on bail.

Police are also said to be seeking additional suspects for questioning.

The 22 year-old Safed woman, Noa Kantman, said she was on her way to visit her sister in Nir Galim.

“I got onto the bus and sat next to the driver. Some haredim also got on the bus, and they began telling me that I needed to move to the back of the bus, the place for women,” said Kantman

Kantman said that when she refused to leave her seat one of the haredi boys stood in front of her, and that his ‘stance was aggressive.’

“After dealing with insults and catcalls, one of the passengers stood in front of me and I felt threatened. I called my sister and asked her to tell the police that I was afraid,” Kantman said.

Upon arrival in Ashdod, police were waiting and took the teen into custody.

And the rest of the verse says “I will curse those who curse you”. Don’t worry he/she will be punished by HASHEM for cursing you. However I didn’t know it was a civil offense to say “curse” words. And what exactly is a curse word? Here in Iceland you can say what you want. People in the US curse all day long. The jails should be full of cursors If it were a crime.

two wrongs (the men’s action to the lady and later her refusal to accomodate their feelings) don’t make a right.

The latest generation of hareidi youths are tottaly out of touch with reality, they actually think that their behaviour is acceptable unbeleivable, how such religious torah learning people can become this deranged, just like a wild animal.

She went to the front to look for trouble. What difference where you sit so long as you got a seat.

Democracy in Israel is a joke. Arabs can kill and get away. No way would I allow my kids or grandkids living in Israel to join their anti religious army.

I was in Israel observing a protest. I heard police officers cursing protesters “Lech L’azuzeil” etc. I also heard a cop arguing with a driver about a speeding ticket and curses went back and forth.
Were there any arrests for cursing? Fore sure not, they weren’t chareidy!

Why don’t the chairedim (so called) get a life and STOP this tzinius craziness. I ask, “is fighting and arguing with a girl/women in public, less an issue of tzinius then forcing her to go to the back of the bus” ???? You frummies are a bunch of hyprocrits and corrupt individuals. All you have on your perverted and dirty minds ARE WOMEN. It is time you create a “tzinius” attitude in yourself and perverted minds and stop thinking about women. You are worse then the goyim that have created the women as a sex symbol and all they talk about are women and sex. You are NO diffirent then them. Start learning Mussar and Chassidus and you will begin to see the real light and how swallow you frummies are.

Haredi males are taught from they day they start walking to FEAR females. Women are presented as eternal threat to men “committing sins.” Women don’t have equal roles in the community. When your role is not equal in a community, you are valued less as a person. In most normal cultures, spitting on a woman is shameful act for a man but not in Haredi and Muslim worlds. The only time their women are given worth value is when it’s time for marriage and babies.

To #1 - Resident of Iceland- I don’t know if you were joking or being sarcastic, but I guarantee you, that if an American tourist went to a bar or a shopping mall in Iceland, and started cursing the local female patrons, the local populace would not stand for it. He would probably be detained, and depor, not to mention being roughed up.

If the chareidim want to have separate seating, let them—–on their own private buses.

It is against the law in Israel to coerce separate seating on public transportation. There are signs on all buses declaring this. Everyone gets to sit in any vacant seat they want!

Here is a thought- if you would not talk that way to your mother, don’t talk that way to anyone.

Imagine an environment where charedim are noted for their courtesy and civility.

She seems to be just another in by now the long list of feminist provocateurs seeking to arrange for a scandal either to attract attention to herself or to advance somebody else’s agenda, and likely both. And of course she can always count on the pavlovian support from some “enlightened” men on this site who are so frustrated with their own bad marriages, say have to lash at chareidim for not respecting women.

I am shocked, dismayed, and upset by all the negativity and name calling expressed on this site.

Whether we are Hareidim or Secularists, the least we can do is express our opinions without any derogatory comments.

Come on people, show some respect for each other.

We American Chareidim should stand behind our Chareidi brothers in Israel. We can warn Israel that if they lay a hand on a Israeli Chareidi we will outvote all the pro Israel politicians that give Israel money. If not for us American Chareidim Israel would starve. The reform American Jews vote anti israel all the time as evident in their seventy percent vote for Obama. It’s we that support Israel and they better wake up and smell the coffee and not draft yeshiva students or else.

Here is an idea. Why not seat the women in front and men in back. Put up a mechtiza between them as well. Like this you can’t say the ladies get unfair traetment. To the contrary women will be treated with utmost respect while allowing those that really care about tznius the proper tznuis.
This for those that really care why not accomadate their needs?

does anyone care about the great chillul hashem caused by the actions of a misguided jew resulting in negative reports, capped by drivel and disdain of some commentors. i am shocked. nothing justifies this behaviour or the perversion of our holy torah to justify such behaviour. if it was my mother on that bus that young man would have been spitting his teeth. and faivish could quote shain tachat shain has everyone lost their mind.

There is a nice way to ask someone to Kindly move their seat…but let it come from someone who says it nicely and respectful, if it’s not a bus moniter or the driver. I have no doubt that this young “shnuk” told her in an unpolite way. was there a policy on this bus that men sit in the front? what if the female was an elderly, handicapped woman, i wonder if his actions would have been the same.
