TSA Administrator John Pistole told the a House committee on Thursday that he doesn’t believe small folding knives would enable a terrorist to take over a plane and that finding and eliminating them is time-consuming.

Pistole says that screeners find 2,000 small knives a day on passengers or in their carry-on bags, with each incident requiring two to three minutes to deal with.

Several lawmakers at the hearing say they don’t see much difference between the knives and the box cutters used by 9/11 terrorists.

how pathetic is it that we are unable to bring a 20 once bottle of soda on a plane but knives are totally welcome???

knives are much safer than a can of tuna or a small mayo. a can of coke??? gee that’s a lethal weapon!!
what a screwed up system!! Ever see an intelligent person working for the TSA?

Small knives are no greater threat than a ballpoint pen. The era of a hijacker taking control are over–too many people would attack the him/her. So, yes, a small knife is safer than a bottle of liquid.
Let the TSA move on the better things…harassment, fondling, leering, etc.

When did Americans become so afraid? Anyone trying anything with a knife would be pummeled by the other passenger.

Seriously? Why would a person NEED to bring a small knife on a plane? Didn’t we already prove we don’t have to all these years???? If we were going to try and make it easier for TSA, water or sealed water bottles would be the logical choice. Or drinks that a person is actually drinking? See I’m drinking it, its not poison or harmful. Look I’m giving it to my baby, ok???? But a knife? What for?

The TSA confiscates (steals) costly shampoos, creams, toothpaste and lifesaving medications from passengers. Toothpaste is a deadly threat, but knives are fine. Now you know why this country looks the way it does. Look who’s running it!
