The former MTA chairman said he regretted his “unfortunate characterization.” He said it was “an inappropriate answer that does not accurately reflect the hard work of its officers.”

Lhota made the disparaging remark at a mayoral forum Tuesday while responding to a question about sex trafficking through JFK Airport. The Port Authority runs the airport.

The remark was criticized by police unions and other mayoral candidates.

Lhota made his apology in a press release Wednesday

It’s not the first time Lhota has had to apologize for a remark he’s made.

Several months ago, he apologized to Mayor Michael Bloomberg for referring to him as an “idiot.”

Actually, what do the Port Authority cops do anyway, besides act as traffic monitors at the Airports? One never hears of a big bust being made by the Port Authrority cops.
