Ramapo, NY – Citing a pattern of “neglect” by town officials to fire code violations, the head of the Rockland County Illegal Housing Task Force has reached out to the state, asking that state officials intervene in forcing the town to enforce safety codes.

LOHUD.com (http://lohud.us/17WULYl) reports that, in a June 1st letter to Ronald Piester, state director of the Division of Code Enforcement and Amdinistration, task force chairman John Kryger called neglected Ramapo properties “weapons of mass destruction,” and said that Ramapo’s volunteer firefighters are no longer “willing” to “wait” until tragedy happens.
In his letter, Kryger cited a pattern of neglect by town officials in which violations have been routinely ignored, and resulting court cases repeatedly postponed.
Gordon Wren Jr., former task force chairman and now County Fire and Emergency Services Coordinator, said there is precedent for state officials intervening, citing the 2007 case of the village of New Square where the state assigned a code engineer to work with the village after local firefighters issued a similar request.
Anthony Mallia, Ramapo’s chief building inspector, called the accusations “unfounded.”
Ok mr. malilla, if the complaint is infounded then you will have no problem with NYS fire authorities checking out the allegations.
thank goodness, that was simple.
