In an audio recording from a Saturday event in Queens posted on the Washington Post website, Weiner asks the woman if she’s a registered Democrat. She replies “yes,” adding she wouldn’t vote for “what’s her name” and uses the slur for a lesbian.
Weiner says, “You really shouldn’t talk that way about people” and tells her “it’s not your fault” when she apologizes.
The Wall Street Journal (http://on.wsj.com/10CYQOc ) says Assemblywoman Deborah Glick and state Sen. Brad Hoylman condemned Weiner for lacking “moral courage.” Both are openly gay.
Quinn declined to comment.
Weiner says he apologizes if he left the impression he didn’t do enough.
I think he handled the situation just fine.
Has anyone ever heard of the first amendment? Weiner, himself is a self styled moran, whose need for attention gives pause to his exhibitional traits. Is this what people want leading this city, or is it that the women just spend their time daydreaming about his shortness of style?
Right, what he should have done is hit the woman, kick her, and then admonished her. That would show moral courage. As one who will not vote for Weiner, I believe he handled himself well. He told the woman she shouldn’t speak that way, and than basically told her it was because of how she was brought up that she did.
Barry,I do not understand your first amendment issue. The government isn’t stopping anyone here from saying anything.
