The Federal Aviation Administration says the biggest delays are at John F. Kennedy and LaGuardia airports.
New Jersey’s Newark Liberty International Airport reported delays of up to 90 minutes.
The National Weather Service says the severe weather also is causing flash floods on highways and streets in the New York area.
