According to Mike Browning, a Tennessee Highway Patrol spokesman, Judith Stele, 66; Brandt L. Stele, 69; Rheta Kanter, 72; and Gloria Friedman, 65, all of Laguna Woods, CA, were killed in the accident when their car crossed the median into westbound traffic and went under a tractor-trailer at MM 100.

Judith Stele was driving eastbound on Interstate 40 in a four-door, 2003 Toyota Avalon. The other three killed were passengers in the Avalon.

Investigators said that, Friedman was traveling to the Carolinas, to visit her daughter who had just had a baby and they were going to celebrate a baby-naming ceremony observed in the Jewish faith.

Apparently, the group was driving from California because Friedman, who has become a grandmother for the fifth time, didn't want to fly, Investigators said.

At the funeral the wrong body was buried in the grave after an apparent mix-up at a funeral home.

Due to a mix-up, which local funeral home officials blame on medical or mortuary officials in Tennessee, the body buried in Rheta Kanter’s grave was that of her friend Judith Stele.

    The mistake has been rectified.
