New York, NY – Despite his strong public opposition to the practice of police ticket fixing, recently obtained documents reveal that Democratic mayoral candidate Bill de Blasio actively engaged in the practice himself, lobbying on behalf of constituents to have parking tickets and garbage fines reduced or dismissed while a member of the City Council.

The NEW YORK POST (http://bit.ly/16qopFF) reports that the same documents also reveal de Blasio sought help from staffers in assisting with an immigration issue involving a man engaged to an in-law’s associate in Boston.

Documents from City Council archives show a 2005 email from City Councilman de Blasio to the NYC Parking Violations Bureau on behalf of a local resident named Jeff Getz, which reads, “I recognize that double parking is illegal, however, as you know, double parking during street cleaning has long been an accepted practice in New York City.”

On the immigration case in Boston, an interoffice email from de Blasio to staffers in 2005 says the Boston man, “Has run into immigration problems which may complicate the upcoming marriage. Do you know any Haitian social service folks in the Boston area?”

De Blasio has been a vocal proponent of a deeper investigation into the Bronx NYPD ticket-fixing scandal.

Dismissing moving violations by getting the ticket off the system is illegal. Writing a letter on behalf of a constituent is perfectly legal and is not ticket fixing.

I don’t know what axe to grind Glen Silver has against De Blasio (and I’m not a fan of the candidate myself) but he is trying to make a mountain out of a speck of dirt on the ground. What is described in this article is not in any shape or form police ticket fixing.

And he merely asked his staff if they knew social service people in Boston to help a family member. Did he use public funding or resources to help the person? No.

This entire article is ridiculous. Glen Silver, either come up with something illegal or improper that Bill De Blasio has done or shut up. If this is the worst you can find I’m going to find myself having more respect for De Blasio.
