Overnight rain turned to large snowflakes in Jerusalem shortly after sunrise and thin layers of snow began to form on cars. In elevated neighborhoods such as Gilo, the snow was piling up, and residents huddled in bus stops, waiting for buses that had temporarily stopped running.

In Jerusalem, snow blanketed palm and cypress trees. Revelers threw snowballs along the walls of the Old City, while others built a snowman across from a U.S. Consulate building.

By midafternoon, the snow had turned to a cold rain, leaving Jerusalem streets slippery with slush. The main highway linking the city with Tel Aviv was closed till midday.

A light snow also fell throughout the West Bank, prompting officials to close schools and government offices for the day.

I wish you would stop using the term “ultra-Orthodox”. What does this mean anyway? My preference would be to identify everyone as simply “Jews”. If there is a need that is appropriate to the story, perhaps consider using “strictly-observant” or, even better, “G-d fearing” Jews. The term “ultra” almost always has negative connotations.

Jerusalem the beautiful blanketed with white powder, a heavenly scent, its just a breathtaking scene.

The rainbow appeared over the Gaza strip, which is suppose to be a negative sign from above, that G-d is certainly not happy of how they live life, so, a punishment will follow if they don’t do Teshuva… will they?
