Albany, NY – State Senator Diaz Accuses AG’s Office Of Bias In Dismantling Of National Puerto Rican Day Parade Board

Albany, NY – On his official website on Thursday, New York State Senator Rev. Ruben Diaz pointed an accusatory finger of bias at Attorney General Eric Schneiderman’s office, asking for an explanation as to why the entire board of the non-profit National Puerto Rican Day Parade organization was ordered “stripped” by the AG amid charges of financial mismanagement, when Met Council’s board was allowed to remain after the William Rapfogel scandal?

A Thursday entry on Diaz’s NYSENATE.gov (http://bit.ly/1gEwMxg) states that, in anticipation of a Thursday meeting with AG Schneiderman and Elected Officials, Diaz has two questions for them, the second being, “In comparison with the scandal surrounding CEO William Rapfogel’s scheme to defraud the Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty, were the Board Members forced to resign by New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman for mismanaging their not-for-profit – or is it only National Puerto Rican Day Parade’s Board that the Attorney General will forced to resign?

The NEW YORK TIMES (http://nyti.ms/1iVSf6V) previously reported that one of the National Puerto Rican Day Parade’s chief organizers, Carlos Velasquez and his firm, Galos Corporation, was booted over financial mismanagement following an eight-month investigation by AG Schneiderman’s office.

While no criminal charges were filed, Scheneiderman “forced” most of the board members out with Galos, on grounds that the board “had failed to implement basic financial controls or exercise adequate supervision over Galos’ conduct.”
