An initial investigation found that a gas leak caused the explosion, however police were investigating the possibility of foul play.

The victims of the collapse were a couple in their thirties, a couple in their forties and an eight-year-old boy whose body was pulled from the rubble hours after the collapse.

Paramedics and other rescue personnel rushed to the scene and worked to extract people believed to be trapped in the rubble. IDF search and rescue units also assisted in the rescue effort.

Last month, a family of three was killed when a massive explosion ravaged a Jerusalem apartment minutes after the technician reportedly claimed he fixed a leak.
