The NEW YORK DAILY NEWS (http://nydn.us/1eApRqL) reports that sources said the informant, Roasrio Naimo, told prosecutors that Riina, known as the “boss of bosses” within the Cosa Nostra, ordered the hit on Giuliani after he teamed with infamous Sicilian prosecutor Giovanni Falcone to crackdown on organized crime.

Naimo told prosecutors Riina sent him to New York to get permission from New York’s Gambino crime family to execute the hit.

The Gambino’s, according to Naimo, put the kibosh on the hit, saying that the feds would “annihilate the mafia” should Giuliani be taken out.

Falcone was killed along with four others, including his wife, in 1992 by a roadside bomb.

Riina was imprisoned one year later after being convicted of multiple murders and other charges.
