New York – New York’s attorney general says buyers of electronic books will get account credits this week from five publishers from settlements reached after 33 states sued in federal court alleging they colluded to raise prices.

The $166 million settlements were approved in December and cover claims from April 1, 2010 to May 21, 2012.
Buyers who bought e-books from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo or Apple will get a credit in their e-book accounts
The publishers are Hachette Book Group, HarperCollins, Simon & Schuster, and Holtzbrinck doing business as Macmillan and Penguin Group.
New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman says their “illegal actions” forced consumers to pay artificially inflated prices for e-books.
About $11.5 million is expected to go to buyers in New York.
