“I’m thrilled that the Department of Transportation has recognized the need to address safety issues at this intersection,” said council member Simcha Felder “I want to thank Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan and Mayor Bloomberg for their responsiveness in addressing this community concern.” said Felder.
It’s about time!
Installing a traffic light at the intersection on 19th Avenue and 53rd, 52nd Street is also very urgent.
I guess every block will sooner or later have a traffic light.
This is great news, but it takes almost 4 months to install one traffic light?? Our local government at work …
I wonder how much its costing the goverment?
now lets see if we can be like the rest of the world and it will be yellow at night or bloomberg is full of it about emmisions when your standing at traffic lights with no cars for miles in site
why cant boro park be like many brooklyn neighborhoods? ie. bayridge has very few lights and only stop signs, yiddalech should learn how to obey stop signs
a stop sign is safe enough, and saves us all time and emission, but our yiddelech get upset when recieving a ticket for not fully stopping
It is amazing to see how people are so quick to knock other yidden,
I live on that block for 13 years, there are so many accidents at that corner,
Bh they are doing this to save lives.
16th ave is a major thoroughfare and inappropriate for a stop sign.
i live on the block no reason for it now i will have to wait 30 seconds evry time
The most amazing statistic is that Boro Park registers the most car accidents than any other place in the entire 5 boroughs of New York City.
A Place , where on average, you can only go 10 miles per hour during the day there are more accidents etc
This stat proves that yidden drive like animals.
Hundreds of tickets (cell phone, seatbelt, suspended license etc)
are wriiten out on 60 Street where 75% are to heimishe drivers.
You would think that people would have enough brains and drive responsibly.
I guess we are a very rich community and can afford 115.00 tickets everyday.
Nothing to do with yidelech driving…That intersection does not provide a sufficient line of sight (to the left side)for the driver at the stop sign to safely cross the avenue without pulling 30% or more into the intersection. Thats because cars are allowed to park on 16th ave right up to the intersection. The right side has a bus stop. The city should have changed the bus stop to the other side of 55th Street and no traffic light would be necessary because a driver at the stop sign would have a clear view of the traffic approaching, without pulling into the intersection.
Annon. Is right regading the line of sight issue. I alwas needed to inch into the intersection befor safely croosing. Note to Simcha Felder: geting things done is great, but being smart and creative is even better.
whats the big deal to have to get a traffic light isnt that a normal procedure? why does everthing come only after kissing — & half a million thank you’s & what not????
In my opinion a 4-way Stop sign is much more efficient and equally safe & it works well on 14th Avenue.
I would also like to point out 18 & 51 which has a school & huge amount of traffic, where some kind of traffic control is needed
Thank You Councilman for the great work.
4 way stop signs are dangerous in BP, cause nobody knows the right of way rules for those intersections. People stop and wait, and then start going at the same time.
On 14th Ave they are 2 way stop signs it controls traffic going in 2 directions (with no left turns across oncoming traffic) On 55th and 16 it would have to control traffic in 4 directions.
BTW when they were setup on 14th Ave people ran them constantly because people were not aware of them.
The city should be obligated to put a flashing red light at those intersections to avoid serious accidents when implementing such drastic traffic control changes. Instead they hide police cars there to write tickets and raise money on our cheshbon.
THERE SHOULD BE MORE TRAFFIC LIGHTS!!!
BROOKLYN HAS THE HIGHEST AMOUNT OF ACCIDENTS (ON AVERAGE) THAN ANY OTHER PLACE IN NYS!!! HENCE HIGHER INSURANCE.
IF IT HELPS LOWER CAR INSURANCE……….
yes a flashing red is enough bp is full of senseless traffic lights yes if it can prevent accidents then it should be up but there are more ways to prevent accidents thean just putting up another traffic light
